Domain transfer question

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by StratDomain, Oct 30, 2013.

    Hi all,

I have a question for the more experience individuals. If I buy a domain name from Company X, which is a reseller of Registrar A, is it possible to transfer the domain to an account at Registar A within 59 days of registering the domain?

No you have to wait the 60 days, however if the seller is willing to change the email addresses to an address you control rather than transferring ownership then you may be able to get around the 60 day restriction.

Thanks for the reply. Just for clarification: That's in spite of the fact that the registar is the same and I simply to "control" the domain from registar's cpanel rather than the reseller's.

What should work in theory is
    1. You pay for the domain registered at registrar X
    2. Seller changes the registrant and admin email addresses of the domain to , leaving the owner name the same.
    3. Seller unlocks the domain and gives you the auth code
    4. You initiate the transfer to registrar Z (your preferred registrar)
    5. Registrar X sends the emails asking for the OK to
    6. Transfer goes through

You have to simply push the domain to another account. No need to transfer if Registrar is same. Re-sellers may be different.

    Whoops

I misread the OP, I thought they wanted to change registrars.

quite possible, though there is a clause of 60 days but if the owner/ registrant is able to change the email address, it is doable

That depends on your registrar and the extension, but it's generally possible.
