"Sighted lying face down from a helicopter, they're still unsure of his condition."

    Saw this on digg.

He's gone now. Confirmed dead. That sucks. Don't know what else to say. It's so sad.

I feel so bad for his wife and kids...

Not too far north of where I am. People please bring chains if you are going to drive in the mountains and know how to put them on. AND bring some emergency items - blankets, flares, flashlight, etc... should have a kit if you drive out in the booney's.

I am not blaming the guy, but it could have been avoided which makes it sadder...

Yeah, this was probably very preventable given my understanding of the circumstances. My father was in spec ops and later was a spec ops trainer. He believed his children should know as much about survival as possible. Even now, I do not leave home without a knife and some matches on me. I have in the past and it's like going to work without shoes on or something, it just feels wierd. You just never know what life is going to throw your way, so always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Prayers to his family, especially so close to Christmas.

This is so depressing. It's not far from where I live (Ashland) and it has been so freaking cold here at night. I don't even want to think about it.

I know. Just thinking about how he probably collapsed in exhaustion, literally giving his all for his family...

Its not inconceivable that a tourist in the Rogue Valley would not know about the danger of snow in the coastal mountains. The roads on the map look easy enough to traverse, and those mountains don't seem high enough to have a significant early snowpack, but they did.

    Very sad....

My nightmare would be to freeze to death. I kept thinking about James over the last couple of days and hoping he found a way to keep warm.

I was following this too. Truly a horrible thing, and especially right before Christmas and the Holidays.

My heart goes out to his family. This is very sad and unfortunate. :(

Read about this news too. Pretty depressing, I should say. Kids without a dad on Christmas. Oh well.
