What type of SSL would I need to get if I am adding a car loan application to a website? Would the cheapest one work?

Honestly, any sort of SSL will do you just fine unless you are dealing with PCI compliance. If you are, then it's a whole other ball game. What is the SSL for? Check out https://www.cheapssls.com/ -- they are generally pretty cheap (as the name implies)

I'm also thinking about buying one.
Check StartSSL startssl.com/?app=2 , that's what they use here at digitalpoint. ;)
