I have been thinking about starting a site like http://gamespot.com or http://ign.com but I don't know what to call it. I would want it to be something easy to remember, and something fairly short so people can type it easily, and I want it to be websitename.com, so that can't be taken either. Any ideas?
gamersworld? In my opinion the area of overall gaming is saturated, maybe you should just go for a specific system or manufacturer.
I'd second that advice. Expect to pay way over the odds for a decent domain name though. Like already mentioned the gaming market is very saturated meaning that any good or half decent gaming related domain names are going to be taken. You could go the other route and rather than having *word*game.com or game*word*.com go for something a bit more brandable. Something that has nothing to do with games or gaming at all and just something that is easy to remember and brandable. At least this way you don't have to spend $100s on a domain name and your site won't be a cliché before you've started. Saying that though i'm sure you could think of a better market to get into. Why is someone going to come to your website over the 2 websites you've just mentioned? I highly doubt you're going to be offering anything remotely unique.
Well now that I'm making this much with it I'm trying to keep it kind of private, but if you really want to know, PM me.
be creative. harder for some than others. if you have a general idea of what audience you want, do it. this example is going to be really random, rubbish and probably trademark infringing, but... say i wanted to aim a fight-gaming site at students. i know that a lot of them like cheesy stuff and due to the time on their hands they watch a lot of films ,especially the old school classics. i would call my site mrmiyagi.com (mr miyagi is from karate kid right?) i would use a cartoon-like mr miyagi as a 'guide' to give little tips and stuff. i could even make a few videos of mr miyagi reviewing games lol, or video-blogs of his life, put them on youtube and theres some free viral marketing. sorry i got a little carried away there, you should see what i actually deleted, but you get the point. creative is fun
