That is a great link. Thanks for sharing it.

Here are some excerpts from the article:

    The headline:
Poll: No Heroes In Shutdown, GOP Gets Most Blame
guess people don't like the GOP

    Some content:
Overall, 62 percent mainly blamed Republicans for the shutdown. About half said Obama or the Democrats in Congress bear much responsibility.
guess that people are overall disgusted but more disgusted with the GOP:
now as to that 37% approval rate for Obama....lets see the context of that as compared to congress:

Most Americans disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job, the poll suggests, with 53 percent unhappy with his performance and 37 percent approving of it. Congress is scraping rock bottom, with a ghastly approval rating of 5 percent.

btw o-nation: why didn't you report this in your little post??? Was that too complicated for you?

The bulk of the article identified that people are disgusted with the government for this shutdown.

But whom do they hate the most??? The article points out that its the GOP.

    Thanks for the article o-nation.

Vote for Charlie Sheen as President, Senator and Congressman. Lets face it, it cannot get any worse. ;):)
He is anyway much more qualified and honest than Obama. :)

So, according to your logic, if AP puts a headline that says GOP to blame over a poll that shows Obama's poll numbers have dropped by 8 points since the shutdown, then we should ignore the poll numbers and focus on the headline? Or does a more intelligent person scratch their head and wonder how the AP can justify putting up such a shameless headline that is so out of touch with the polling data they are presenting in the very same article. I always find liberal logic a little difficult to understand so help me out here.

I love it. The extremist radical tea partier embraces the extremist left winger. Both hating America, Obama, and rooting for a financial meltdown and default, thereby screwing every American and folks around the world.

....bin laden would of course embrace you two. Why don't you go hand in hand skipping over to a al queda hideout where all of you can celebrate your hatred for America and wishes that the world economic situation crashes down.

Drink some tea. Its big in the Arab/Islamic world. Its no wonder the tea party embraces that as a name reference. Their goals are the same.

This is the list of goals by the Tea party:

    1. Eliminate Excessive Taxes
    2. Eliminate the National Debt
    3. Eliminate Deficit Spending
    4. Protect Free Markets
    5. Abide by the Constitution of the United States
    6. Promote Civic Responsibility
    7. Reduce the Overall Size of Government
    8. Believe in the People
    9. Avoid the Pitfalls of Politics
    10. Maintain Local Independence
    Source: http://www.teaparty-platform.com/

This is the list of goals by Al Qaeda (at least according to Wiki)

del Bari Atwan summarizes this strategy as comprising five stages to rid the Ummah from all forms of oppression:

    1. Provoke the United States and the West into invading a Muslim country by staging a massive attack or string of attacks on U.S. soil that results in massive civilian casualties.
    2. Incite local resistance to occupying forces.
    3. Expand the conflict to neighboring countries, and engage the U.S. and its allies in a long war of attrition.
    4. Convert al-Qaeda into an ideology and set of operating principles that can be loosely franchised in other countries without requiring direct command and control, and via these franchises incite attacks against the U.S. and countries allied with the U.S. until they withdraw from the conflict, as happened with the 2004 Madrid train bombings, but which did not have the same effect with the July 7, 2005 London bombings.
    5. The U.S. economy will finally collapse by the year 2020 under the strain of multiple engagements in numerous places, making the worldwide economic system which is dependent on the U.S. also collapse leading to global political instability, which in turn leads to a global jihad led by al-Qaeda and a Wahhabi Caliphate will then be installed across the world following the collapse of the U.S. and the rest of the Western world countries.

    Rebecca:

Goals of the tea party seem nice. Forcing a shutdown that throws people out of work, slows the economy, and threatening to cause a default on national debt will achieve all the goals of al queda. Isn't that sad?

Meanwhile more members of the GOP across the nation are disgusted by the tea party congress: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/establishment-gopers-assail-tea-party-125205252.html

Read what members of the GOP are saying and doing. It spans regular people to known politicians. Its wide spread disapproval and unhappiness. Clearly the democrats don't favor the tea party. Clearly independents don't favor the tea party. An ever larger number of members of the GOP don't favor the tea party. Now for the first time members of the GOP are acting to challenge tea party candidates in primaries. There is a strong repugnance to the tea party actions across the land.

Don´t worry about it. Earl was arguing before that disagreeing with Bush is un-American and now he is arguing that disagreeing with Obama is un-American. He subscribes to "Hail to the Chief" policy. ;):)

Rebecca, I would have liked your comment twice, but I was laughing too hard (and the system wouldn't let me ).

@gworld: Actually, I believe when Bush was in office, Earl was telling us disagreeing with him was his patriotic duty. He only found disagreeing with the President to be the equivalent of terrorism once Obama took office.

Its no wonder so many republicans are so disgusted with the tea party. Here are latest public opinion polls:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/10/10/the-republicans-worst-poll-yet/?a

    excerpts: the headline:
    The Republicans’ worst poll yet

    who is to blame:
By a 22-point margin, the public thinks the Republican Party is more to blame for the shutdown than President Obama. NBC's Mark Murray notes that that's "a wider margin of blame for the GOP than the party received during the poll during the last shutdown in 1995-96."

The GOP popularity hits an all time low!!!
Like Gallup, this poll shows the Republican Party at record levels of unpopularity. Only 24 percent have a favorable opinion of the GOP, and only 21 percent have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party. Both are "all-time lows in the history of the poll."

In the public's eyes democrats are seen much better and their ratings are up from months ago:

The Democratic party, by contrast, has a 39 percent favorability rating. That's pretty much unchanged from recent months, and is in fact the precise same favorability number Democrats posted in May.

    - Last month, voters preferred a Democratic Congress to a Republican Congress by three points. This month, it's up to eight points

In real life other than in extremist worlds people negotiate differences. In the Islamic world extremists kill other people with reckless abandon. In America, extremists blackmail the country, drive people out of work, ignore the consequences, and threaten to take the nation into default. In the 1 year run up to this manufactured catastrophe the political extremists in the tea party refuse to negotiate on any point and if a member of the GOP wants to negotiate with the other party the tea party mafioso strong armed private interest groups of ultra conservative billionaires and millionaires threaten to run a more conservative --more tea party candidate against them in a republican primary.

The American public is fed up with it...and frankly every day more members of the GOP are fed up with it. The radical right message is so discombobulated and nonsensical its no wonder people across the nation are fed up with their language and tactics.

After years of GOP bashing and venomously attacking federal workers, within the first week of the shutdown/furlough the GOP house leadership authorized a vote on guaranteeing furloughed fed workers back pay. Get this. It was authorized by the GOP. A vote can't come up in the House without the GOP majority approving its process beforehand.

The vote passed the house UNANIMOUSLY!!! Every GOP house member voted for it. That is good for the furloughed workers...though who knows when they'll be paid.
But for the same group that has unequivocally ripped the value of every federal worker ever since Obama came into office, used its leverage to freeze fed worker pay, initiated a sequester that forced fed workers to lose some work days....the GOP quietly authorized back pay.....for days the furloughed workers aren't working. The irony of ironies.

The Tea Party has a monopoly on indiscriminately reversing its message for purely Public Relations reasons.

Now to get back to the opening thread. With so much of the population so disgusted with the tea party it could well mean that the coward contingent of GOP members of congress who know better but won't cross the tea party because of primary threats may very shortly start voting and acting to end the shutdown.

For week ended October 6 the hotel industry saw a drop in activity. http://hotelnewsnow.com/Article/12426/STR-US-results-for-week-ending-5-October. Side effects of the government shutdown is that it hurts business. (tea party members of congress show complete obliviousness to this element)
    from the article:
Washington D.C. and Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Virginia, were among the markets most affected during the week. Garner said each market experienced a progressive decline in occupancy during the week. Washington ended the week with a 12.1 percent decline in occupancy, a flat ADR and a 12.1-percent drop in RevPAR. The Norfolk-Virginia Beach market finished the week with a 9.9-percent fall in occupancy, a 2.4-percent decrease in ADR and a 12.1-percent decline in RevPAR.

“Several variables factor into the performance for the week, and overall there were challenges for a number of markets,” Garner said. “Long-term effects of the shutdown remain to be seen, but in the early going it clearly had an impact on the overall hotel industry.”

Other markets with notable performance metric decreases include: New Orleans, Louisiana (-9.4 percent occupancy); Detroit, Michigan (-7.1 percent occupancy); San Francisco, California (-13.0 percent ADR and -13.3 percent RevPAR); Denver, Colorado (-8.0 percent ADR); and Chicago, Illinois (-10.0 percent RevPAR).

Garner said an analysis of the performances in several national park areas indicated a general slowdown during the week as occupancies fell in Gatlinburg/Great Smokey Mountain National Park, Tennessee (-11.8 percent), the Grand Canyon area (-11.4 percent) and Bozeman/Yellowstone National Park, Montana (-7.9 percent).

This writer adds some additional polls showing how pissed off the public at large is about the shutdown, how the public at large views the culprit as the tea party republicans, and then shows how incredibly different the teaparty perspective is to the public at large let alone members of the GOP who don't agree with the tea party:

    http://news.yahoo.com/why-republicans-should-be-very--very-afraid-192943188.html

from the article: multiple polls from different sources show the public is mostly pissed off at the tea party:

A Thursday NBC News/Wall Street Journal national poll found the GOP’s approval rating down to (gulp) 24 percent. This came on the heels of an Associated Press/GfK poll that revealed the thumbs-up verdict on Congress (5 percent) is only slightly higher than the survey’s margin of error (3.4 percentage points). Small wonder that the liberal New Republic headlined a Friday article, “The Last Days of the GOP.”

further down the writer shows how different the tea party thinks than other members of the GOP...and also suggests how they might react, as they have reacted after recent defeats in the last election:

But the more likely outcome is that, even in defeat, the tea party wing of the Republican Party will draw the wrong lessons from its repudiation by a lopsided majority of voters. Instead of recognizing that House Republicans went too far in their implacable and implausible demands to defund Obamacare, the right wing of the GOP may perversely conclude that its congressional leaders hoisted the white flag too soon. The NBC News/WSJ poll picks up this split: 72 percent of tea party backers approve the scorched-earth tactics of the congressional GOP, while only 42 percent of non-tea-party Republicans hold similar views.

....with business slowing, people losing their jobs, more jobs being lost because of inaction by the government and above it all a threat of financial default. Reasonable Americans, including ever more republicans simply think the tea party actions are whacko beyond belief.

Meanwhile with increasing numbers of Americans losing work and business slowing and people across the land either experiencing these problems or seeing their neighbors experiencing these problems...the PR machine of the tea party has been spewing out stories that a financial default won't matter.

the tea party: hijacked congress, blackmailed the country, caused jobs to be lost and the economy to suffer and now they are spewing out stuff that a default won't matter.

    bin laden would love them.

Conservative writer Kathleen Parker writes disparagingly about the tea party. She saves her most serious accusation for Ted Cruz:

It is enlightening to see the never ending blasts of the the tea party and tea party tactics by folks from the Right Wing.

Meanwhile, almost two weeks after the government shutdown, polls are showing a shift in Democrats’ favor. Not only do fewer Americans view Republicans in a positive light (28 percent, according to Gallup) but they’re becoming more , not less, approving of Obamacare. While Republicans were nudging the can up the road on the debt ceiling, approval for Obamacare leapt up 7 points, according to a newNBC News/Wall Street Journal poll .

    Great job, Teddy!

That would be Ted Cruz, the Texas senator who grabbed headlines by speaking for 21 hours against Obamacare. Cruz is neither Michael nor Sonny but the star of his own movie. He’s Ted bin Laden — the guy who hands out suicide vests and then goes to lunch.

Meanwhile there are current negotiations to end the government shutdown, get people back to work, reopen govt services currently closed that are having negative economic implications across the country and very critically avert a government default.

Once again as with last year fiscal cliff negotiations the House Republicans are not involved in the final negotiations. The House keeps showing it is completely incapable of being involved in any meaningful way in effectively governing the nation. Its only function since the tea party took over the house has been to create problems and crises and threaten the health of the US and all of its citizens.

Its simply astonishing the GOP House has shown itself to be completely unable to govern in any way whatsoever.
