So, according to your logic, if AP puts a headline that says GOP to blame over a poll that shows Obama's poll numbers have dropped by 8 points since the shutdown, then we should ignore the poll numbers and focus on the headline? Or does a more intelligent person scratch their head and wonder how the AP can justify putting up such a shameless headline that is so out of touch with the polling data they are presenting in the very same article. I always find liberal logic a little difficult to understand so help me out here.

Goals of the tea party seem nice. Forcing a shutdown that throws people out of work, slows the economy, and threatening to cause a default on national debt will achieve all the goals of al queda. Isn't that sad?

Read what members of the GOP are saying and doing. It spans regular people to known politicians. Its wide spread disapproval and unhappiness. Clearly the democrats don't favor the tea party. Clearly independents don't favor the tea party. An ever larger number of members of the GOP don't favor the tea party. Now for the first time members of the GOP are acting to challenge tea party candidates in primaries. There is a strong repugnance to the tea party actions across the land.

 

Don´t worry about it. Earl was arguing before that disagreeing with Bush is un-American and now he is arguing that disagreeing with Obama is un-American. He subscribes to "Hail to the Chief" policy.

@gworld: Actually, I believe when Bush was in office, Earl was telling us disagreeing with him was his patriotic duty. He only found disagreeing with the President to be the equivalent of terrorism once Obama took office.

Like Gallup, this poll shows the Republican Party at record levels of unpopularity. Only 24 percent have a favorable opinion of the GOP, and only 21 percent have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party. Both are "all-time lows in the history of the poll."

In the public's eyes democrats are seen much better and their ratings are up from months ago:

In real life other than in extremist worlds people negotiate differences. In the Islamic world extremists kill other people with reckless abandon. In America, extremists blackmail the country, drive people out of work, ignore the consequences, and threaten to take the nation into default. In the 1 year run up to this manufactured catastrophe the political extremists in the tea party refuse to negotiate on any point and if a member of the GOP wants to negotiate with the other party the tea party mafioso strong armed private interest groups of ultra conservative billionaires and millionaires threaten to run a more conservative --more tea party candidate against them in a republican primary.

The American public is fed up with it...and frankly every day more members of the GOP are fed up with it. The radical right message is so discombobulated and nonsensical its no wonder people across the nation are fed up with their language and tactics.

After years of GOP bashing and venomously attacking federal workers, within the first week of the shutdown/furlough the GOP house leadership authorized a vote on guaranteeing furloughed fed workers back pay. Get this. It was authorized by the GOP. A vote can't come up in the House without the GOP majority approving its process beforehand.

The vote passed the house UNANIMOUSLY!!! Every GOP house member voted for it. That is good for the furloughed workers...though who knows when they'll be paid.
But for the same group that has unequivocally ripped the value of every federal worker ever since Obama came into office, used its leverage to freeze fed worker pay, initiated a sequester that forced fed workers to lose some work days....the GOP quietly authorized back pay.....for days the furloughed workers aren't working. The irony of ironies.

The Tea Party has a monopoly on indiscriminately reversing its message for purely Public Relations reasons.

Now to get back to the opening thread. With so much of the population so disgusted with the tea party it could well mean that the coward contingent of GOP members of congress who know better but won't cross the tea party because of primary threats may very shortly start voting and acting to end the shutdown.

....with business slowing, people losing their jobs, more jobs being lost because of inaction by the government and above it all a threat of financial default. Reasonable Americans, including ever more republicans simply think the tea party actions are whacko beyond belief.

Meanwhile with increasing numbers of Americans losing work and business slowing and people across the land either experiencing these problems or seeing their neighbors experiencing these problems...the PR machine of the tea party has been spewing out stories that a financial default won't matter.

That would be Ted Cruz, the Texas senator who grabbed headlines by speaking for 21 hours against Obamacare. Cruz is neither Michael nor Sonny but the star of his own movie. He’s Ted bin Laden — the guy who hands out suicide vests and then goes to lunch.

 

Meanwhile there are current negotiations to end the government shutdown, get people back to work, reopen govt services currently closed that are having negative economic implications across the country and very critically avert a government default.

Once again as with last year fiscal cliff negotiations the House Republicans are not involved in the final negotiations. The House keeps showing it is completely incapable of being involved in any meaningful way in effectively governing the nation. Its only function since the tea party took over the house has been to create problems and crises and threaten the health of the US and all of its citizens.

Its simply astonishing the GOP House has shown itself to be completely unable to govern in any way whatsoever.
