Not all good seo get a first page ranking but all the seo on the 1st page of google are good or they couldn't have gotten there. Sites such as 1st-page.com aren't there but are awesome as you said.

Yeah but there are tell-tale signs. When they say they focus on building PR or for $99 will build you killer meta tags that is a good sign they are bad. Some aren't so easy to tell. See what kind of info they provide. Good seo like Aaron and randfish provide alot of free advice.

    Hello guys,

I just read this entire thread and I was confused about 1 thing. Visio, you said "Sites such as 1st-page.com aren't there but are awesome". Now, if I was trying to hire this company and I didn't hear about them from you, I would try to see from what is out there, if they are good or not.

Now I see that their PR is 3, I know PR is not everything but, How can someone hire a SEO company that has a lower PR than the site they will optimize. Also, I saw that G-o-o-g-l-e is showing no BLs for them !, they have about 17 pages indexed (could just be a small site). Even Yahoo doesn't show too many BLs for them.

So my question is, how can someone know they are good by the info that is available to them !.

let me know what you think.

Truth is, the really great SEO firms do charge an arm, a leg, and a wrist.

    Try www.rankabove.com.

Yes, yes - it's my site. My partners and I have been doing SEO forever, with some pretty impressive clients under our belt. But we just started this company and we are willing to make a deal with some smaller companies to help get our name out there.

PM or email me if you're interested. You can see some of our successes at the site.

Consider an SEO firm that has experience in your realm of interest. And get references.

Nice point, but what she meant is SEOs target the first page first then when an SEO is done, he/she may target the rest.

You're right, SEOs are busy, but not all SEOs.

1st-page works on reputation and has been around for quite a while. From what I have heard they do excellent work and better than expected. They have a nice portfolio they will show you of sites they have worked on who you can contact to verify with. They don't need to have a high PR or rankings in google because they get tons of clients by word-of-mouth and also use adwords.

When finding a seo company you shouldn't always go by backlinks and rankings and never go by PR. Go by their portfolio and one good thing to test on them is act like your going to go somewhere else. A good firm will not pester you to stay with them. They will ask you to rethink and will give contact info you decide to change your mind but will not beg you to stay and use them. Also a good firm will not cold-call.
