If you are spamming, it never worked and it never will. However, most blog comments will bring you no follow links which are equally important as dofollow. So it does have some effect.
Blog comment spamming does indeed work but for certain instances. If you are spamming a site where you want the direct traffic then it works but I would not advise spamming links to your money site. Instead, do the research to find high pr, low obl, relative, blogs that will provide you with good backlinks. This is very hard to spam if you are doing it correctly, but then again you want to be careful about what and where you are posting.

No no no !!!! Sick and tired of filtering spam comments. Just please stop. People do it as a backlink method because it is easy and laziness too. But there are really a few who does it to drive traffic. People who comments to contribute, not just comments that are relevant to the topic.
sorry guys here i really need to some clarification: In what way does one comment distinguish as non spamming? If we put hyperlink to our sites in comment, but we really made an effort to comment genuinely based on context, is that being classified as spamming?
Blog comments are mostly flagged as spam because there are so many who abused it. But when you comment and add real value, the readers will classified you as an authority on the topic and if you have a link to your website, it will give you traffic. FOr your question, I think it won't be spam but do not make it as a main source for your link building. Just keep it to a minimum. Besides, real SEO don't do blog comments to rank your site.
