Hello Dear your question is very nice and here i try to solved your question.
Google sitemap is very importent becuase google will give us 70 percent traffic but yahoo which is convert into bing search eninge so it will give you only 30 percent traffic. so don't be woory that just focus on google and little bit on bing.

Now, there is no yahoo sitemap. Only Google sitemap and Bing sitemap only available. Nowadays, Both are the Best Search Engines. Yahoo linked with Bing.

I think the question of which is more effective really depends on where you're getting most of your traffic from and which search engine(s) you're ranking the best with.

urllist.txt is compatible 100% with all the SE's, sitemap.xml is not.

If you don't see any change after adding urllist.txt, you probably forgot to add your sitemap entries to your robots.txt file. Most of the other SE's don't allow you ping your sitemaps like google does with google webmaster facilities. So, you have to show your sitemaps on your robots.txt file if you want to see a difference. urllist.txt is more important than sitemap.xml. Because it's universally recognized by all the SE's.

Assuming the XML sitemaps do not use any of the extensions (image sitemaps, video sitemaps etc.) most major search engines support it fully.

The type of the sitemap can indicate what is the content, it's all the same xml but what's inside can be different. You can see it in your webmasters sitemap if they recognize any image submitted.
