I think this case has illuminated a lot of racism in our society, although it's mainly against white people.

Yes, you would have, and that is reasonable. But what is "no other alternative"? At what point do you decide to stop and throw down? (would you really do that if you knew someone had a gun) I think another alternative would have been to keep walking and/or run. Not sure how the victim may have thought there was a gun... Seems speculative. Although I admit that I was not there, so if anyone else was, please speak up.

Conversely, one could argue that GZ struggled for his gun and shot the kid when he had "no other alternative". No offense, but even if a wrong had led me into the situation, I would have taken GZ's course of action. Every single time. Of course, I probably wouldn't be in that situation in the first place, but...

I think the lesson that SHOULD have been learned here, is that this is why people are supposed to teach their kids to keep their hands to themselves. Nothing that happened that night should have led to someone dying. Yes, it sucks when somebody questions what you are doing as a STRANGER in THEIR GATED COMMUNITY. But why does that have to lead to violence? State your purpose, and move on. I wouldn't have come out swinging over it. (and I can't see why pent up angst of the racial variety should be such a powerful motivator)

But hey... sometimes, when you play, you pay.

Thats about the only thing you said that makes sense

Doesnt matter anyway, justice prevailed and zimmerman is a free man. It is just a shame the kid died, but thats my opinion, and I dont expect you to share it.

So keeping one's hands to themselves makes no sense? Getting into a physical fight with someone just because they are following you is the best way to handle the situation?

    Funny world you live in.

GZ was in idiot for escalating the situation. Trayvon Martin was an idiot for playing the thug. 2 lives ruined for nothing.

    umm ok
Your post came across as if you were saying that the kid deserved to die, and the only point that I really agreed with was the one I quoted. Now If you cant take it as a compliment that someone agrees with you on something then you have bigger issues to worry about.

"Deserve" is a horrible word to use in this context. He took a bad gamble, and paid a bad price. Both of those morons did. Quite simply, while I'm not suggesting that he "deserved" to die, it wasn't exactly improbable that it could end up that way. Just like it wasn't exactly improbable that following a hooded stranger after dark hours could buy you an ass whooping. So they both made really stupid choices. A good choice on either of their parts would = 2 living persons, leading happy, normal lives. Hope that clarifies it.

I just would have preferred to have been agreed with in whole, rather than in part. :)

It's fair enough that we disagree. I'm not broken up about it, and I suspect that you are not, either.

God bless his soul. He's up to 100k. Now he can get a good attorney to keep the state from railroading him on those idiotic accusations by his ex. Hope he gets his guns back soon.

10k, and worth every penny for such a scam. Of course it only works if you already have a marketing mechanism in place like a nationally recognizable name attached to the product. George doesn't strike me as that bright. Well meaning, yes, but not that bright.
