Useful Tools, Tips and Tricks for SEO

    Hello Everyone,

My intent with this thread is to create a list of SEO tips and resources people can use. I will post lists, tools and other items here that all you do-it-yourselfer people can use to help your websites rank.

Everything I post will be free or low cost and have nothing to do with me or any affiliate programs. Just some good info.

I want to invite others to post useful resources or information here as well. The more of us join in, the more helpful this thread will be.

My first item is a list of Web 2.0 sites you can post to. I have pulled the Pagerank for all of them and sorted the list from highest to lowest PR. You can go to any of these sites and post a blog/article with a link back to your website. Be sure to use images and also link out to an authority site like Wikipedia. See attached file.

    Cheers

It looks like some of these are dupes of the list I already posted, but there may be a few on here that are different. I will pull the PR again and add those that are different to the list. Thanks!

    Here is another useful tool.

    http://dropmylink.com

Go to this site and type in a search related to your website. If your website is about racing horses, then type in racing horses. You will get a list of sites related to that topic that you can post to.

Actually READ the posts on the sites and write a relevant comment with a link back to your website. Some may be auto approve, but most likely the author will read your comment and decide whether to approve or not. If it looks like spam they won't approve, but if you actually write a decent comment about their post, then they will likely approve it.

The list is great but one think to keep in mind before spending times is that backlinks from only relevant sites matter these days.

I would respectfully disagree with that statement. All backlinks matter, even nofollow backlinks. However, relevant and contextual backlinks carry more weight and pass more authority/link juice than low quality links.

For example, you might have 1 highly relevant backlink from a PR3 page that is worth 500 lower quality links. This does not mean that the others are worthless, only that the 1 is much more powerful. Don't forget that the 500 lower quality links may also be serving to vary your link profile and mix in variations of platform, anchor text, do & nofollow, etc. It is very important to diversify your link profile so it does not appear unnatural. We are simulating what happens when people link to you on their own, rather than an SEO at work :)

Also, the great thing about web 2.0 sites is they are relevant, because you get to make them relevant. If you are posting a page on a web 2.0 site, then I assume you will write content that is relevant (on topic) to the site you plan to link to. That is the exact definition of a relevant site.

    Cheers

Nice info Savy its a huge list and its gonna take a lot of time for me to add in links to all of this :)
You can also refer to some of the article directories which I found useful on a website justclickin.com/top-free-article-directories-high-pr-authority-august-2013/
Do you know more article directories?

Posting backlinks with some content (comments or articles) to web 2 sites is too time consuming, and I don't believe there is a big difference between doing it manually and using software like SENuke to do it. While I agree that these backlinks still do carry some weight, their value depends on the value of one's time.
While the other alternative which is links from authority sites can be costly, its effect is significant, and it saves time. So in the end, everything depends if one has time to spend building backlinks or if he prefers to spend money to get some authority.

You forgot to say that it's much more important to use UNIQUE content only! Otherwise the results will not be so amazing. Also you should build tier2 backlinks in order to boost your SERP! 3-5 articles per web2.0 site are enough for good results! :)

Article directories still work, but "G" has devalued the links, so they don't work as well as they used to. Mix them in with your other linking, but don't rely on them only. I'm adding another post with some article directories for you. :)

    Hello everyone,

@esther.paul asked for a list of article directories. I think its a great request, so attached are some lists. Should be a couple thousand article directories here. Does anyone know of a way to post to the top of a thread? I wish I could keep the lists together at the top rather than you guys having to search through the posts to find it.? Any site mod willing to bump this up to the top next to my Web 2.0 list?

@nicolaze is correct. Software for doing linking is MUCH more effective than doing it by hand. However, the intent of this thread is to provide free ways for people to build links for those that have more time than money. Senuke costs $147 per month. It also requires some skill to run a quality campaign and not get your site penalized. I DO recommend it for those of you who can afford it and are willing to go through the learning curve to understand how to use it properly.

Thank you for sharing this. I have not used this one yet. Is it completely free, or just a "try for free?"

@patco Good tip. Yes, unique content is very important. "G" will only index one copy of your content, so you will not get credit for your content if you repost the same thing over and over. You should either write unique content yourself or spin it using something like Spin Chimp (free). There are paid spinners like The Best Spinner, but since the objective in this thread is free ways, I would recommend Spin Chimp.

    My tip for SEO is:
    Don't use anything automatic.
In the past Google has banned all links and articles from automatic tools and Google will ban all unnatural activities in the future.

What you need to do is have great unique content, and get quality backlinks

Quality is more important than quantity.
