So, I found a website that is extremely popular, but I think that more people would visit it if it had a different domain name that was better optimized. So here's what I was thinking. I'd like to buy a domain name that relates to the content of this other popular website and then simply create a new header image with a logo for the domain I purchased and a single advertisment. Then, below that, I'd create an Iframe with the other site. Is this legal? The other option would be to purchase a domain name that's optimized for search and then have it redirect to the popular site with an advertisement on the redirect page. What do you think?
Definitely unethical, if nothing else. Technically you're displaying their content so, unless they give you permission, I think they'd be well within their rights to serve your hosting company with a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Notice and mandate, legally, that you cease and desist. I mean, what you're doing is stealing their content and server resources by running it through an iframe... and profiting off of it. My opinion is that it's a bad idea, plain and simple. Besides, what advertising network would allow that to continue if they found out about it?
Well if they really wanted to block you from loading their site they can just set their x-origin headers
They shouldn't have to. Is that really the world you want to live in? Should people make all of their text into images so that it's harder for people to scrape? I mean, come on now. We need to have our ethical standards and make money through our own merit instead of literally stealing a website through an iframe.
Thanks guys. I will not be doing this now as I have no intention of doing illegitimatevsites. I was just curious if this was acceptable. At least to one degree I thought sites wouldn't mind as it'd be free marketing for them and lots of traffic.
