Which one would be preferred by Yahoo; sitemap.xml or urllist.txt I think Yahoo’s Slurp will search for urllist.txt first.
I use both. The "sitemap.xml" has more information in it, and therefore should mean the Slurp bot crawls your site more efficiently. RSS feeds are also supported, so you could have them as well. Cryo.
It has been about 3 weeks now, since the "big announcement" on Nov. 15th. Which basically said, "will support". Not "currently supports". In the absense of any advisement from Yahoo, I agree with you folks that urllist.txt is still the "canonical" way to go. Yahoo has said to use urllist.txt. They have not said to use sitemap.xml, except ever so briefly in the upload panel, with no further explanation. I have seen nothing from Yahoo, in terms of details. I have seen nothing from MSN, in terms of details. For a while, we are going to be left guessing, it looks like.
Yahoo! do list "sitemap.xml" on their "Submit Site Feed" page, and they have been downloading and parsing my XML feed without any errors. MSN has been downloading my sitemap.xml regularly for months, so I assume they know how to process it correctly. You could theoretically submit it via their add URL page... Cryo. PS: MSN Live Search talk about the sitemap protocol in their official blog.
i dont think that there will be a difference between urllist.txt and sitemap.xml. i will use both of them
