hi here i want to know is directory submission dead or valuable for site. After panda and penguine update I think directory submission has no value, it gives bad signal to the site. I have fresh new travel website and think to start directory submission.. What's your thought ? Is it helpful or harmful for website.
It sounds kinda like you've made up your mind already. You're asking if its dead or valuable, then you answer the question and then ask it again.... I guess it comes down to who you believe. Thousands of hack wannabe SEO's or people who actually use directories successfully as part of a larger overall link and traffic strategy. The last few google updates seem to have caused problems for just about every website out there regardless of where or how they were linking and or listing their websites. I think the reality is, the only websites having "real" issues right now are the ones that lack content and the interest of a large enough audience to be considered relevant.
There is a right and a wrong way to use directories. Spamming every one out there, regardless of how relevant it is to your niche, certainly won't get you anywhere. Directory links still work, just get them from quality domains and look for the usual signals (OBL, dofollow/nofollow etc....i know, not that easy with directories). Especially in local SEO directories still work well (as long as it's a relevant one).
The directories is not now as beneficiary as it was in past. But still you get a good backlinking from it if you use them wisely. If you have not such experience then forget about the directories submission activity in your seo. you can use other activities like articles submission, guest post, etc.
No way, directory submission will always have its stand in the world of SERPs. It is just a matter of time.
I depends on how you plan to use them, I guess. If you want to submit your site to a couple thousand directories in a few days, then you will likely be flagged as spammer and treated accordingly. If, on the other hand, what you do is to consider them an additional source of links, and you take your time to make descriptions different, and you are careful enough to submit only to directories which are active and good, and you do it gradually (in groups of 10, for example) while you get other links from other sources, then you can use them safely.
Some if the biggest names in SEO are still submitting to long developed quality directories. That should tell you something about directory submission today.
Stoner I think what they are really asking is submitting to low quality web directories for the purposes of getting one-way links dead. The answer to that question is an emphatic yes and it has been that way for a long time. To the OP I would focus on links that will drive targeted traffic since that is your end goal and it will also help drive your SEO efforts.
I don't think directories are dead, I still get some results but I only submit to niche directories or directories with high pagerank.
Directory submission is not dead, but people are expecting a bigger bang for their bucks than just a link (ie traffic, clients, etc) when submitting to a directory
I personally select a few high quality directories and target them manually, rather than spam a lot of low rent ones. A few high quality link backs from high quality directories, are worth a lot more than 1000's of link backs from low rent spam nests.
Directory submission is the fastest and proven method to get Google Penguin penalty. Directories are dead, but directory owners or people who offer submission services refuse to accept it. zero value and zero traffic from even high-end directories like botw, yahoo or business.com.
