I want to choose a keyword which i think will not give me a tough time to get ranked higher. How should I properly analyze it?
I use Market Samurai. I think you can still get a 7 day trial of it for free to give it a try. Michael
I would suggest first using the Google keyword tool and find out if the keyword you art looking to rank for has less than 10,000 searches a month globally. The less amount of searches the easier a keyword is to rank for. Second I would put the keyword into the google search bar and look at the top 10 results. find out how many backlinks each of the pages have that are in the top 10 use seo4firefox to do this. this will give you a good idea of how much backlink work you would have to do for your keyword. third I would look and see what type of page is ranking for that particular keyword in the top 10 results. if they are mostely main domains it will be tough to rank for, but if they are mainly subpages of the main domain you are in the clear. It is much less competiative to rank for a keyword if there are a lot of subpages in the search results. and people do not tend to build backlinks to subpages as much as they do to their main domain. 4 put quotes around the keyword in the Google search bar and see how many exact results show up for that keyword if less than 50,000 good to go. but if more than 50,000 and the results are mainly subpages and throw away sites like about.com--article, or ebay listing, and so you are usually good to go. the last step would be to put this in the search bar intitle: keyword and then serch intitle: "keyword" if these reults are less then 20,000 you are pretty much in the clear to start optimizing for that keyword. Make sure to purchase a domain that has you keyword in it as well. if you can just purchase a domain with just the keyword in it, but if not availiabel just put 1 letter after the keyword and that is usually available. for example keywordx.com. good luck -- Will Skinner
Google adwords is best for Keyword Research, in these day Google launch a new tool "Keywords Planner" you can use it also.
Hi, I want to optimize a site locally like in Bangladesh only, but I find a keyword less competitive in local and high competitive in global. In this case what should I do?
there are too many things affect search ranking but first of all, use right words in meta title and meta description, it is basic work for any seo, knowing who you are and what is it, then express properly. imagine you are a shopping site seo, how do you optimize the dress category, the rings category or any other.
I appreciate your answer. I have already done the Meta tagging according to the content, still a doubt comes is -which keyword should I choose in case of local area. That is, which should I choose high competitive or low one.
if it is a shopping site, choose high competitive keywords, they are almost selling keywords, long term keywords with place is a good choice. and you will not optimize online one word for one page, all right?
I don't think it is difficult to decide keywords or theme for such a site, but tourism site need more rich and unique content. another way to research the keywords is learn from the competitors, but never copy from them. good luck.
I have done the competitors analysis....some of the keyword are very common to me...but I cannot avoid these keyword...like "tourism in Bangladesh"
l Stick to keywords with Bangladesh in them if that is where you want to optimize locally. Also make sure you submit your site to Google local, you might not be an actual business with a building, but this does help get your site indexed as local and helps with pushing your site with keywords that are locally driven like "keyword in bangladesh". When looking at the results in the Google keyword tool keep in mind that Google is showing how competitive the keyword is when using Google adwords the PPC platform they have, so the competition bar is kinda irrelevant when doing research for SEO on particular keywords. so the next step is to take the keyword you want to rank for and put it into the Google search bar and see how many results come back for that keyword. wrap the keyword in quotes to see the exact match results as well. The lower the results are the more likely it is that that keyword is going to easy to rank for. Make sure to look at what type of pages are showing up for the top ten results subpages or main domains, and find out how many backlinks those same pages are getting. that information is more important than the competition analysis that you get with the Google keyword tool. Cheers, -- Will Skinner
But as I know if I choose high competitive keyword then it will be tough to increase PR... Thanks for your information...
For this, you need to check that the keyword you choose must offer some kind of traffic, means it must be getting traffic at least 700-800 per month for the country you are are researching. DO not take a low competition keyword having no traffic at all.
Usually, top 10 sites are your main competitors in Google SERP, check their on-page as well as off-page strength and follow them.
I use Google's Keyword planner for checking the keywords competition and to make overall strategy for doing seo of it.
I alway use the firefox plugin Mozbar in combination with the firefox plugin Seoquake. And then I analyse whats the average of the Pr in the top ten in combination with the Seomoz statistics and if the keyWord is in the titles. Simple as that. Has been working quite well for me. My eperience is that it matches the real difficulty to like 70%.
