This is the worse thread EVER.

He doesn't make his own money, he makes money every second regardless of what he is doing during that very second, other people make his money for him, therefor, bending down and picking up any amount of money is worth his time.

Actually, Gates does a large amount of work. He is the CEO of a company, and the amount of money he makes is related to how well (or poorly) the company does. At least a large portion of this is due to the direction provided by upper level management, and the decisions they make. People never seem to think that a CEO contributes to the success of a company, only to it's failure.

Becoming CEO doesn't mean just sitting on his ass all day either. It took him years to become what he is today.

Now, that doesn't mean a CEO shouldn't take the time to pick up money, but the humor here IS apparent. :p

Bill Gates may still be the CEO, but he stepped down unofficially. His focus is 100% on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

I would think that running one of the biggest charities in the world with the primary goal of fighting a virus science has yet to beat would be equally challenging, if not moreso, so maybe this just means he has even less time to spend picking up dropped money :).

That chap makes a lot of money regardless of what he’s doing or where he is. It’s nice to know that from now on he will invest his time on people that need it the most.

Very true. Despite all the bad things people say about Bill Gates & Microsoft, his charity efforts have earned him my respect.

Agreed. How can people hate Bill Gates? Anybody who does hate him is obviously jealous of his wealth. And it's not like he's using his money to fund cigarrette ads in children's magazines or something. He's donating almost all he has to combat AIDS.

His wealth is dependent on the performance of MSFT stock, so he is not accumulating wealth every second.

Well, Microsoft has engaged in some unethical business practices, and has affected some parts of copywrite law, trademark law, and so forth, that has earned the Ire of some people. For others, like those who like using Macs and Linux, many of them dislike the fact that all the good games and much of the other good software comes out for Windows first, or even only. As the man behind the company behind windows, he’s a figure for potshots born of frustration over not being able to use their preferred software on their preferred platform.

I think that it has already lost some of it's hold on the American Desktop and Laptop to Linux, and that Linux is fairly heavily used in business server computers. Microsoft is hardly a monopoly. I think one large factor is what software comes out for what platform. People generally use the platform that has the software they want, if they are willing to learn a new platform in order to be able to use that important software. I've leaned to use command line Unix and Linux, as well as a GUI Linux based Sun Microsystems OS in order to use specific programs on them. Many software producers produce their software FIRST for the most popular platform that will support the functionality they need. Windows is one of the most popular platforms for the every day user and the gaming enthusiast, with the Mac being a high contender for people who use computers primarily for media, and Linux being the coding geek's dream. However, over time each OS has gained some of the best features seen in the others in order to be able to compete. Windows, Linux, and Mac OS are becoming more and more like one another. Linux has become more User friendly, the Mac has become more versatile and generally useful for business applications, and Microsoft steels any feature they can as soon as it becomes apparent that the masses want it (see: tabs, in Windows Explorer). I'm not sure how much longer a person's OS of choice will even matter.

Well if that is the man that is responsible for me typing this now and being online on a Windows XP computer he deserves most of it but there are a lot of negavite points I could make against Bill Gates but I will leave that after I have tried Microsoft's new Vista. :D

We've got a test box here at my job that the tecs have been trying to get Vista to load onto. A memory upgrade and a Video card swap out later and it STILL hangs at 10% while installing.
