    @rogerbinny You're welcome!
I use only these two free tools!

For example, I can see from reports in Google Analytics how much traffic I'm getting from Google and also I can see bounce rate!
There are also some date on keywords that performing well!
Regarding webmaster tools, I can check all keywords for which my pages and posts are indexed on Google!

There are data on clicks, impressions and positioning! It gives me a good idea on what keywords I should focus more
in terms of promoting pages and posts around those keywords.

Google Analytics and Webmaster tools are must for all people who want their sites to be indexed by Google!
Just try to explore and learn more about these tools!

What exactly do you want to understand about a website? You can check backlinks, position in SE's, Social Media presence, other SEO factors, his visitors, etc... ;)

I am really satisfied by Roger, These are some basic steps to follow while analyzing the site for the first time. Moreover you can check the competition of the Keywords if provided. Otherwise Keyword targeting and optimization must be properly done.

Hi, You want a website that looks great, has modern features, and can be found by search engines. Here’s how to find a web design company that will do that for you. Good web design may be a matter of taste. And taste varies, depending on the region and culture, as well as other factors. However, there are some standards that should always be considered. If you have only a minute to decide about the overall quality of a website. Thanks :)
    Have a nice day !

I think it is almost a must to have Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools installed on your sites. However, I don't think that it is sufficient for a successful SEO campaign. Google WT covers things like:
    • Site crawling and indexing
    • Webmaster Messages and Notifcations from Google
    Google Analytics:
    • Many website insights
    • Traffic details
    • Measuring SEO effects
    • Bounce rate, Time on site, etc...
    • Conversion details
Both tools definitely fall short on the following important aspects:
    • Link structure details (growth, follow-nofollow, homepage-deeplinks, anchor text distribution, ip-class-c distribution, backlink quality, niche relevance of backlinks, ...)
    • no reliable information about domain and page authority
    • quality of webcode and compliance with W3C guidelines
    • detecting valuable high potential niche and long tail keywords
    • finding valuable backlink partners
    • clear information on website visibility and real social reach
    • identification of harmful and low quality backlinks to own website
    • providing step by step advice (or tutorials) to improve search ranking results
So, I clearly recommend more than just these two tools.
