Well, I stumbled over a site that is similar in content to my own, and I noticed they were asking visitors for donations if they liked the site. So, I thought what the heck, why not try put up some donation requests on my own site and see what happens. And I'll be darn, I put up the donation feature today and allready got a 10$ donation So gonna run with this and see how it will go, nice start at least
I tried this on my forum and it failed miserably, lol. It was probably because I didn't talk much about it, just put the button onto my site.
You know that something i been meaning to do with mysite but keep forgetting..quess i'm do it now. Wish me Luck!
I'm probably going to do that with my site, but only after I release something, like programs or perhaps plugins for WordPress...
I run one site where it says if you want to donate please donate to your nearest free clinic. I am not sure why I do that, if your idea is working, may be I need to put a donate button myself. But I may not do that in the near feture. Thanks
If you're asking for donations you usually need to also offer something in return. So for example: Give them a link to their site Give the access to a members area etc etc
I run an alternative news related site. And I put up paypal for the donation function. I have a link on bottom of every page saying "Please consider a donation if you like this site" which links to a donation page telling them how much i appreciate their contribution etc
i've run into the problem that when people donate they think you owe them something... i run my sites for profit, not for fun... on one site members started bitching b/c i bought a house, a new car, etc... while my day job paid for those things, the website certainly helped... so i took the donation thing off, and decided that i dont want to give the members any reason for them thinking i owe them something...
