If you'd like a second opinion, PM me the url.

Check Archive.org to see if there's a history.

Use Domaintools.com whois and check the thumbnail - many times it isn't updated and will display an earlier snapshot. Also check the registration date and nameserver history, many times it will not match if it was for an expired domain.

Check Google's cache to see if it's indexed, also perform a site:domain.tld search to see if any pages are indexed and look at their cache. If it's spoofed by a previous redirect, it usually displays another domains content.

Use Yahoo Site Explorer and check the current backlinks. If there is PageRank, you should be able to determine if it's possibly correct from the backlinks.

Don't rely on PageRank tools that just query datacenters.

Basically, trust your own instincts, if you suspect it's faked, it's likely that it is.

Interesting article. The site it mentions lost all of it's fake PR except for on the PR 6 page. I think Google is learning how to detect this form of Black Hat. I wouldn't think that sites using it would remain undetected for long.

To check fake PR you can use this tool too..

    http://www.rankalert.net/fake-pagerank.php

It doesnt determine, it use the data google provides for the URL, it analyzes the data, on a predefined algorithm (that involves baqcklink analysis too :)) and if finds a certain pattern it tells that pagerank is fake, and what is the real domain its using pagerank of.

    Hope it helps.

    This method doesnt work always,

If I have a site and I 301 to a higher PR site, when google updates it will get the PR of the site where its being redirect, the day I got the PR I removed the 301.
Now the next time when google bot will visit my site it will grab my sites data.
and by the very next index update (Not PR), google will show my site when someone queries about it. So I have my site in the google's index but, with the fake PR which will be there until the next PR update happens and that will happen after 2-3 months.

So now tell me how would you know if I am using a fake PR or not??

Hm, are you sure that you wouldn't lose the PR in the next google crawl (not PR update) ?
