I myself believe that God is real. There are many reasons for this. Part of it is that I was raised to believe this. However I have had many moments in my life where I have examined my faith, some of them hard times, some of them when I was exposed to new historical information. One piece of philosophical logic that argues for the existence of is change. One greek philosophy argues that everything had to come from something else. Back further, and further. Each thing coming into being, or being changed had to come from something before it, and something before it. Eventually, you get back to there being one change, or existence that was not acted upon by anything else. The “Un moved move†the source of all things. In my faith, that is God. As for arguing that the big bang, or all of creation came from a singularity initially, I now ask… where did the singularity come from? It dumped matter in from another universe? Okay. Where did that universe come from? And so forth. As one Scientist who studied himself into Christianity said (and I am paraphrasing) “The big Bang theory has pretty much been debunked. Think about it. That theory says that a whole bunch of nothings got together and made a lot of something. It just doesn’t make sense.†There is no hard evidence that says for sure that God does exist, or that he does not. That is why those of us among the Faithful are called that, in the absence of evidence one way or the other, we rely on faith. When we cannot understand something that hurts us, such as the tragic death of a loved one to a drunk driver… cannot understand why that had to happen, faith in a higher, loving power that helps us through the bad times sustains us. Some may call us delusional. Some may say that we are to weak to live without faith… but it is a very hard thing to give up the Illusion of controlling your life, and put your life in the hands of someone else, when there is no proof that that being even exists, when all you have to rely on to know that they are there… is faith.
Okay, now, I'm not bashing anyone, or anyones belief, I totally understand why people need that in thier lives, what I don't understand is how something turns ( for an individual at least ) from a belief into the facts of life. Okay, think about this, your argument is, that all things come from somewhere, right ? that there must be a beginning and an end ? The only thing that dictates a beginning and an end, or before and after, is time, and time; as I'm sure you're aware, is relative to the speed you're going, which is why if it were possible to travel faster than light flat, you would travel through time, the explanation is staring you in the face, the universe is expanding, not only that, the speed at which is expanding has been proved to be accelerating, carrying these facts through to thier logical conclusion, if you go backwards 10-15 billion years at the birth of time there was actually nothing, in that, there was no movement, there was no time, no existance, the universe expanded from nothing, a void; with no dimensions, no time, nothin, this is a scienctific fact, making your argument also void. The bible, indeed, all religions were created for answers to the questions that arrise from being part of this race, where did we come from, where are we going, why are we here, what's the meaning of life, all these things, and for some time at least they served thier purpose, but nowadays, we just don't need it, the answers are there if you're willing to listen and learn, sure not all of them, who needs all the answers anyway...... I don't want to start a bitch-fest or be accused of being closed minded or any of that crap, I have a valid argument, and so am voicing my opinion....
Actually, one’s speed is relative to the frame of motion they are using. When one views another traveling (Relative to them) at a different speed, there is a distortion of time and space in their observation. When one accelerates relative to a frame of motion, there is additional distortion of space time. If my frame of reference was moving away from the theoretical exact center of the universe at exactly 0.95 times the speed of light, something at that point would also be moving away from me at 0.95 the speed of light when viewed within my frame of reference. So even if something is not moving at all relative to a given frame of refference, it is still experiencing time within that frame of refference.
Could you send me to a site that backs this up as a fact? I wasn't aware of any human that was there to watch all of this or of anyone going back in time to get the video. (The sarcasm was added because that is an awefully big claim to make.)
That explanation assumes that we are qualatatively smarter than previous generations. Progress is a myth. We have more quantatative knowledge, but the quality of the human mind has not appreciably increased since the time of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. In fact, some would argue that humans are getting dumber, not smarter.
Some believe that long ago Wisdom was valued above all else in a person's mind (leaving strength, endurance, and the size and shape of one's genitles out of things), but that in time Knowledge became more valued than wisdom, and after this information became more valued than knowledge, and that now raw data is becomming more valued than information.
Absolutely. David, a Jewish shepherd who later ruled his people said: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge." Yes, it takes faith to believe, but God will reveal Himself to those who humble themselves and acknowledge their sins.
My wife was, until recently, a Buddhist. The only thing I can suggest is for you to research the issue. Find reputable books on the topics and study them. Don't just study one, study all the major world religions and compare them. I am only familiar with authors for two of the five dominant worldviews. If anyone knows of any good authors defending the other faiths, please let me know. I would be interested in reading them myself. 1. Atheism / Agnosticism 2. Judaism 3. Christianity - "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis and "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel 4. Islam 5. Buddhism - The Dalai Lama has written some books on Buddhism, including "Buddhism for Beginners."
Yes, and what started God? God was just there, you say? You are essentially contradicting yourself. "The universe is extremely complicated. Therefore, there must be a creator." The problem with this argument is that the creator, to be able to create something so complicated, must be extremely sophisticated beyond our comprehension. How could you believe that such an intelligent being does not need an origin, but something far less complicated, such as this universe, need an explanation?
We must turn to the great book for guidance: goby n. fish with ventral fins forming a sucker. God n. creator and ruler of the universe in Christian, Jewish, and Muslim teaching. god n. superhuman being worshipped as having power over nature and human affairs. godchild n. child in relation to its godparent(s). -The Oxford Minidictionary 1991 Lets Pray.
It is not a contradiction to say that God had no cause but the universe did. Causality is a property of the universe, not a prerequisite to existence. Inherent in the concept of causility is the concept of time (i.e. something happened before something else to cause it). Everything that is in and of the universe requires a cause because it exists within a the space-time continuum. Space and time are interrelated as Einstein's theory shows. In order for the universe to be created, the creator must be independent of both space and time, and therefore the need of a cause as well.
I don't believe in God but if others want to believe then that's fine, we all have to believe in something. I believe Arsenal will do alright without Tierry Henry for the next 6 weeks even though we have a tough week with Porto today, Chelsea on Sunday and a tough Christmas fixture list. Everyone is entitled to believe in something and if you sincerely believe in it then that's all that matters.
I use Yahoo too because they have a very nice search for videos* there too and you can find some ace 30/45 second clips. Ideal for a very quick hand shandy. * Remember to take the safe search off
Yes,...anyways this question is personal thing; not for some forum, where half the people speak with the certainty and hypocrisy of their values.
cool din't know they had video search, will be using them from now on thanks for the tip will save me lots of time.
