    Hi DP members

How do you define spam? Does promoting your website/blog on on several different websites, forum or classified ads per day on a daily basis consider a spam? Thanks !

If you are sending out a message, email, or link to people who don't truly want it, or you are blasting something out to anyone and everyone, or you are blatantly advertising your site on a forum or blog comment.... then you ARE spamming!

Well with forums my opinion is that it is to comment for the sake of commenting to get your link rather than commenting to add true value.

Or just think of the blog comments we all get that say "nice post". Now I get sick to death of those!!

I'd say that Spam is a dumb posting/mailing when one annoys the public  but if one makes his posts neatly, even with the aim of getting profit or backlinks, I think that's no spam at all

I would say that Spamming is making irrelevant comments on a site/forum with an aim of achieving your personal gains or without following the set rules rather than being helpful or provide solutions as per the site rules.

Spamming is conveying a message that is not related to the content at hand. Spam is also considered what people do not want such as junk mail. It also has the same characteristics as the lunch meat Spam. Nobody wants it or eats it. On the other hand some some people thinks its tasty. About 1% of spam is useful to some people.

Irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of recipients.

    Backlinks / contents are irrelevant.

    Just my $.02

for me, its anything that does not add value to the discussion at hand, in an attempt to self promote ones own sites, or services. I dont mind people backlinking so long as what they say is useful.

Simple. whatever you are doing is considered spam when you

    1) Piss people off and they click you message as spam
    2) Do not have permission to send them stuff or send them stuff they don't want
    3) tell people rubbish and to show they do not like it

I think we must all know difference between Flood and Spam.

Spam is when you try to advertise and publish a website or a blog in the forums, no matter if it's allowed or not.
Flood is when you create useless posts, those "+1" posts, or messages that do not add any "explanation" or any "information" about the topic we are talking about, then we talk about "Flood"

Most of people actually don't know this, and they call "spam" what in fact it is "flood"

    Read back my post.
It matters for the fact that you are saying it wrongly. But as everybody confuse it, we can understand what you mean by "spam"

I would say its a message that is irrelevant and / or not wanted by someone or some place (ie the website, forums etc).

When I first started to get spam I wondered how they knew I had problems downstairs?? Then I got it - lol

My initial thought is when there is a lot of offers in a short amount of time. Those kind of emails gets on my nerves!

Spamming is when you send your "offer" to buy, before providing help or content. You're supposed to use the content to soften them up first, then, in that content you can put a link taking them off the content to an offer. That way they can take it or leave it. When you don't give them a chance to make that choice, that's spam.
