What are the costs and benefits of adding a blog to a directory?

I'm thinking of adding a blog to my directory in a sub-folder.

I can think of lots of benefits of doing this, but are there any costs?

    Some benefits:

    - More unique content
    - Offer more links for paid submissions
    - More pages = more page rank
    - google loves regular fresh content

I guess its a no brainer then. I will set up a blog.

I have a directory of directories and I'm going to try and review every directory. Should take a few hours but the unique content should pay off in the long run.

If aviva directory has a blog then it must be the right thing to do.

I don't see how there is even a cost-benefit to it.

It's all benefit, having a blog won't hurt you.

No problem, I mean, having a blog and continually updating it will show that you are active in your directory, or that you are inactive.

    Good luck!

Actually you've found a potential negative effect of having a blog. If the blog hasnt been updated for a few month then it will reflect badly on the directory.

In which case, you shouldn't have a blog. :)

I like my directory blog www.frogengine.com/blog since it enables me to keep letting people know about new specials I have going. I also use it to recommend certain directories and do reviews. Blogging for a directory is not a bad idea at all, especially when you have been in the business for quite some time and know the ropes :)

Your own internal links are not going to increase your page rank...
