New website, is this the optimal way to get SEO'd?

I just opened my new website, http://www.ediblecoupons.com . The site deals with coupons and codes that I give away free of charge. I was curious about adding other coupons to the site but now am unsure. Are mini blogs, aka, blogs that deal with one company specifically better than a general coupon blog that might deal with numerous companies at once? I guess my question is, is a specialty niche site more likely to be ranked higher in Google then a general site?

A speciality niche site is more likely to be ranked higher in Google if you have good keywords and good link placements on other sites. As long as you know what you're doing when it comes to SEO and backlinks, then you can get anything ranked on Google. :)

Yes, by the very nature of any specialty site, there is going to be less competition, so its certainly easier to rank specialty/niche sites...you can rank 'red high heel wedding shoes' MUCH easier/faster than 'shoes'

yes, surely. however, coupon is already a specific niche but you can go deep by running a specific category coupon site. for example: grocery coupon, restaurant coupon, diaper coupon (don't laugh! lots of new parents look for diaper coupons as they get shocked as to how much diapers costs once their babies are born), etc or be more specific by using a specific retailer like best buy coupon or burger king coupons erc.

Niche sites work better in terms of relevancy, authority and quality. As long as you are capable of producing more traction from social media in terms of Facebook likes, twitter retweets and Google +1's you will do good in search.
