According to my experience prestashop is one of the best CMS that provides eCommerce solution. I think there is no alternative to prestashop.

There is no such thing as the 'best ecommerce solution' - it all depends on your requirements. If you can explain what kind of store you are looking to open I can make a few recommendations.

I agree with Gareth33, it really depends on what store you are trying to open. Also, there are many other alternatives to PrestaShop like 3dcart, bigcommerce, shopify, oscommerce, etc.

I would prefer Wordpress with WP E-Commerce plugin for building online store.
Due to its huge community support & customization options are bit easy & straight forward.

Depending on what you're selling they're a many eCommerce solutions for every need. A great one to check out if you're selling clothing or physical goods in Storenvy. It's sort of like a Social eCommerce solution that gives you a free storefront (that could be customized to look amazing and professional) and also all products listed on your storefront will also be listed on the Storenvy marketplace. It's a great free solution to check out for anyone trying to sell physical products online.

I see this question a lot. It all depends on the person. For instance, Shopify is great for beginners as it is the most simplistic option when one has little knowledge about programming. However, it is limited in it's capabilities and their basic membership takes 2% of your sales (which is a huge rip off).

Bigcommerce is a bit more complex, but the it allows for a ton of customization and great features.

Wordpress is the most complex to program, but the sky is the limit as far as what you can do with your site. Plus, it's the cheapest route (unless you need customization). Other options like Shopify and Bigcommerce already have payment processors integrated, which can save a bit of trouble.

Thank you for all your recommendations. However, i am considering of the price. I wish to try online for my clothing apparel (working mom). For a starter, how much should I set a side (budget) for the platform? Thank you.

My favorites are Big Commerce or Prestashop.
They are fairly easy to use.

    For Wordpress, Woocommerce is good.

WordPress plugins are good. They are easily customizable and pretty powerful. Now I`m watching how this project is developing. Hope it`ll be better than Woo Commerce.

Mercuryminds recently devloped me an Ecommerce site using X-Cart platform. Though I am a newbie in ecommerce, the website was easy to handle. To my point of view for newbie it is better to hire a good developer who gives suggestions/instructions on how to customize, navigate etc would be a better choice than reasearching the numerous ecommerce platforms.

Been doing quite a bit of research into this. I'm going to have to look into wordpress ecom more. I've used it for blogs before but that's it. Personally, I like Volusion, shopify, and bigcommerce. As far as getting a developer to make you a custom design goes, Shopify and bigcommerce seem to be the cheapest from all the research I've done.
