Hello, of late i have seen that my rankings in SERP's have decreased significantly. i dint got any msg from Google WMT regarding unnatural links or so. Is it possible that my site has been hit by Penguin? Same here. Traffic has dropped, but no penalty notification. I believe it's just Penguin 2.0 devaluing a lot of apparently worthless links (such as most directories). I've been working on removing those that I can and disavowing others.
If your site has lot of copied content or duplicate content, if it has lot of spam, irrelevant backlinks pointing to it, also if you have built some low quality links to it, chances are that its a penguin manual penalty will be high and Google might even deindex your content or the whole site.
UPDATE: I got messages in my webmaster tools which says that i have not been penalized for Unnatural links. I have entire unique content though. And still no change in rankings, getting ranked for low competitive keywords.
It may have nothing to do with unnatural links. It may have to do with the quality of links though. For instance, you will want to have the majority of the links that point to your site coming from sites that are relevant to your content. In other words, if you have a website about "dogs" then you will want to have links coming from sites about "dog food" or "dog training" etc. etc. While it won't necessarily hurt to have a link coming from a high PR site that doesn't have relevance...if you have tons of backlinks coming from sites with PR less than 1 and that have nothing to do with the content of YOUR site...you'll get smacked.
Yes, u r right, i just searched for my domain on google, nd der r many sites which are non-english and linking to me, but they have good pr. Also, few backlinks in webmaster tools are returning 404 errors, will have to fix it to gt back my rankings
If a website hasn't been penalized for Unnatural links so there may be many reason behind it ! In this condition I recommend you to check your website carefully specially content & it may be more better if you could share your website address.
Quality of backlinks may have been discounted. That means you will need to build NEW, quality backlinks.

Penguin checks the links whether natural or unnatural. It penalise for the unnatural links and ranking may go down because of this.
