Your pay is too low to interest a qualified native-English writer.

When my kids rely on my breadwinner skills for basic life essentials, nothing is "too low to interest me". When it comes down to it, I'm sure you'd write 1,000 words an hour for your children, as would I.

    That being said...

..OP, I'm Chicago born and raised, currently in Indiana. I could take 5 articles off your hands each day, invoiced via PayPal upon approval of my finished work.

Not when there are companies out there paying 10 cents a word and higher. It saddens me that you guys will write for such low rates.

I didn't say 'sites.' I said 'companies.' There are sites for native-English writers that will pay more than most people will pay here, though is why I find it a bit odd that you guys would take these jobs if you can indeed write proficiently. Textbroker comes to mind. If they rate you at Level 4 (which isn't hard to get) they will pay you 1.5 per word. Not much, but you won't have to market to clients. You just select the article and go.

If you're at or very near professional writer status you can sell work at Constant-Content for .5-.10 cents per word or more. It's not unusual for articles there to sell for $100. CC takeas a 35% cut and their editors are very strict, but it's still a very good oppurtunity for writers who pass muster.

Finally, since Panda and Penguin hundreds of thousands of sites have been practically forced to upgrade their web copy. There are thousands of sites with the money and the sense to hire great writers and pay decent rates.

For an idea of what you could actually be earning, see Writer's Market.

You're looking for native English speakers from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada who can produce error-free, informative work at a rate of $3.5 per 500 words? Surely you're joking. I'm disappointed in any (legitimate) native English speaker who would work for this rate - they would just be driving down market prices and hurting us all. Well, to the OP: You get what you pay for... offer slave wages, get garbage in return. The content creation market here is in a sad state, apparently.

No problem. Unfortunately there's a market at that price because some native-English writers are desperate for any kind of work. Generally, though, it holds true that people get what they pay for. Desperate people don't really produce great work on a consistent basis. If you're just starting out, it might not hurt to do a few of these jobs to get a feel for what it's like working for a client. That's always a good lesson to learn. I just strongly urge to not spend much time at that low level.

Just speaking for myself, I'm not 'desperate,' and have a private strategy for leveraging the low-paying work to make it worthwhile. A large fragment of internet marketers do not rely on labor intensive work like writing as a career in itself, but as a means to an end (e.g., creating products and websites), as part of a plan to make largely passive long term profits. Freelancing is thought of as an easy, evergreen source of quick money, done to finance their way while building monetized money funnels elsewhere. So we're not necessarily sweating pinching for the highest possible penny off of writing alone, as it's only part of our business plan.

Writing is just a small part of my overall business plan as well, Melprise - but I fail to see the point you're making. Whether writing is one's primary focus, or one part of a larger plan, one should never settle to write for such outrageously low prices. Doing so contributes to the degradation of the market while simultaneously being a route to short-selling yourself (time, skill, etc.); it's a bad situation for everyone.

As I said, I have an approach that recovers the value on the back end or in most other respects, to make it worthwhile. Just as a matter of comparison, a large number of buying ads on DP used to offer only $1 or $2 for 500 word articles. Good writers would never go that low for quality unique work, even as they stoop to offer services to parties that can only afford to offer $3.5 for the content. So things are improving.
