Namecheap + hostgator or only hostgator?

So..
I need a domain name and web hosting!
What is the best setup?
Buy a domain name on Namechep or GoDaddy and then add this name on Hostgator?
Or pick the name directly Hostgator?
Are there big difference?

Usually they give you the domain names for free when you buy a host, so you can ask for such services.

Like on hostgator i need to pay for addons but buying separated name i wil not have this fee right?

 

Not on hostgator! 9$ domain name + 9$ hosting addons + 7$ montly fee

 

Even if you have some issues with your hosting provider you still have the control on your domain name.

 

Better to separate between the two, that way you will have more independence and control over your domains in case you wanted to change the web hosting.

 

Hosts can hold your domains hostage if you rent through them so you should always register your domain name away from where you host. I have my domains with godaddy and host through hostgator. Sometimes I find which domains are cheap by using NameRip.com

 

Doesn't really matter... just think of the 2 as separate entities. Look for a registrar with a good price, valueand service. Just the same, look for a web host with good price, value and service. You can mix and match to your liking. I use 4 different registrars and 2 different web hosts.

 

I have to agree with the other posters, its usually best to keep your domain separate especially from the hosts that "include" the domain free, those hosts will always hold the domain hostage to some degree. Hostgator however does not do that so in that case you should still have separate control over the domain. That said if you do register elsewhere, just avoid godaddy, there are lots of other great and cheap registrars out there like namecheap.

 

the hostgator control panel for domain names is very icky. The namecheap control panel is alot better!

I recommend you look into namecheap + ferngullygraphics.com for your hosting. You MUST avoid any hosting company that offers unlimited. Think about it. Does your home computer have unlimited memory / hdd? No. So avoid any company that offers this. I used to be with hostgator and had to leave after a forum with just 2 members on was too slow to load, and that is the reality of what to expect when using providers that heavily oversell unlimited to everyone they can.

 

Never buy domain and hosting from same provider.
Buy domain from one and host on another. Else you may face problem in future.
If anything goes wrong with your hosting, they will hold your domain name.
So better secure your domain name.

 

I second with Pupul. Don't buy the domain and hosting from same provider. Instead, change the nameserver and add it in your hosting account.

 

i buy all my domains at namecheap and have my hosting at ipage.com .
thats suuuper cheap. i pay for my hosting about 44 dollar for 2 years!
and i can host as many domains as i want
