Legally blind woman, 94, bowls a 244 CENTRALIA, Wash. - Esther Medley of Centralia is legally blind, but when she bowls she can glimpse a bit of the floor to line up with the lane. Medley, 94, can't see straight ahead, so her 86-year-old husband Ralph tells her which pins are left after her first ball. That's how Medley recently bowled a score of 244, which included eight strikes, at Fairway Lanes in Centralia. It was the second-highest score of the year for her league. The Medleys have been bowling in the senior league since 1979. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061201/ap_on_fe_st/legally_blind_bowler
wow! jeez at that age or even 84 most seniors are lucky to leave the house other than to go to church or get groceries...more power to her. that's awesome too considering the handicap!!
I am amazed too and i agree with timsdd its not common for people at that age and she is handicap too. Thats pretty good actually great accomplishment
Well. That is fantastic to hear. I used to bowl for many years. Professionally too. But the expenses were so high here in Australia. I remember when the US juniors came over to play against us. It was my turn to compete and I rolled a 230 against there top bowler. Oh that felt good! My highest was 290 and it took me 5 years to do that. So, for a blind person to bowl a game that high is brilliant.Bowling is not easy by any means. So many factors involved. I think she must practise a lot though. Hats off! Col
Wow, I'm full abled and my high score is 153. There is a kid in my school though who's bowled 12 perfect games already.
That's really an inspiring reminder that we are capable of more than we think! Props to the both of them for encouraging each other!
