I use no paid services, but several free ones, such as keyword tools, etc.

Thank you all for the answers. Well, of course, there should be a proof for using of any tool. If you see you'll get no advantages of paying for a subscription, it's ok to continue using something free. But if you are (for example) a manager in a SEO-oriented company, it's ok to spend some money and get the data that boosts your revenue. So it's just a poll, not a battle 'paid vs free', maybe I should have noticed that =) I'm just looking for popular paid services right now.

Tools LOL, we are the tools and we use a tool with each word we type, and the best SEO tool is the Google SE presently (not the dopey adwords tool, the SE) and your competitors websites and a brain that knows what to do with the info you can find, those are the best tools...

    I am a tool, repeat after me I am a tool... :)

Hehe =) yes, but how would you find, let's say, all the backlinks of your competitors? With a good well-known webservice (not writing it so no ads here) it's really easy. Yes, backlinks are nothing without a good content. But let's be honest, there are many situations when your good, unique content is somewhere between 10th and 20th position at the SERP. And if you analyse your competitors' backlinks, you may find some new fresh ideas how to get the backlinks. Backlinks still mean something, and it would be a mistake to pay too less (or too much, yes) attention to them.

But that it is not a problem! Backlinks won't tell me anything, have you never heard of pointing links to one page that then point to another?

The backlink graph is only misleading info to me. I don't need that info to beat the competition anyway as can beat them without knowing anything about their backlinks, but ahrefs is one tool you can use if you need to, but it wouldn't tell you a dicky bird about my backlinking games for example LOL.

You would see and know very little analysing my link profiles. I assume others are up to similar things to so I ignore such things and just out do the competition by providing better for the needs of users

Backlinks have very little to do with this in the main though of course can help at times, but again if you can't beat the competition without them and use them only to further strengthen what you gain without them you are easily beatable anyway...

DO NOT USE paid services. Most times if you get a paid backlink, you can finish with a blacklisted website especially if your website gains a backlink from NOT related domaiN! ;) ;) ;)

But paid services for buying links - it's just one option in the poll. Almost all the others are related to analysis or monitoring. I know a few guys who use one of them to find low-competitive keywords with high CPC cost. After that they just create content for their websites, and get more traffic (and more revenue) easily. That's just one use-case of just one service, but there are many of them.

We use all the services we have listed on site (see signature). Our rankings have remained rock steady post Penguin 2.0 updates and all those prior to it. Quality speaks for itself. :)

A lot of people I know pay OS people to write articles for secondary sites (rather than spin them) and pay indian seo companies to get back links (of course preferrably from related industry sites).

I dont do that yet, but then again I am not earning enough and dont have hundreds of sites. If you are into affiliate marketing and have many sites, some automation is no doubt necessary.
