I'm using a new way to layout content at my site www.aggify.com and I was hoping someone of you could look at it and give me some feedback.
You created this layout? I mean it's really good why are you thinking of changing it's layout? It's good, attractive. My feedback on your website right away is GooD.
Thanks. I am just trying to get some input to see what people think about it. I am glad to hear you like it. And yes, I created the system you see for the layout. Aggify.com will be able to have people input content and it will automatically organize it the way you saw.
Here's what I think: It looks like it was built with software called the 90 second website builder. It looks really nice the way it renders. The code, however, is a bit of a mess; there are a lot of inline styles. I would be concerned that making sitewide changes to the overall look of the site would be a real pain. Typically, you would just edit the CSS. Let's say you wanted to change the color of your links. Would you have to go to each page and change the color of each link manually? That would be a lot of work if you have dozens of pages filled with links. Traditionally, there is a CSS file that defines how a site should be rendered. So, changing the link color on the entire site is as easy as changing one line of CSS. It doesn't seem like this program does it that way.
I did use 90 second website builder. I am not trying to build a functional site, though. I am just trying to build a demo site for presentational purposes. The layout I am talking primarily about is the way I am presenting content inside the tiles. My concern is the way I am doing it may be confusing because it is pretty different than the way anyone else is doing it. I have done some comparison polling and it appears people like it better than the way Pinterest does theirs, but the amount of data I have to support the study is not significant.
I can see that. The layout is really cool and unique. The truth is that many people were confused with Pinterest at first (new things throw users off). This has its advantages and disadvantages. It is novel and uses the space very efficiently. On the down side, it could be easy to overlook some content that gets buried in the center. I think the uniqueness of the layout and presentation will outweigh any confusion new users have. It's visually appealing which will inspire people to stay around long enough to figure it out.
My first impression without reading. What is it? I'm not clear what the site is about. After reading i realized it's about sharing profiles. So why not have an image with lots of people icons with maybe a twist regarding profiles sharing with each other. Just like Facebook has done. This would make me realize in an instant what your on about.
I want to second what the poster above me said. When I visited your site, it took me 2-3 minutes to figure what the concept of the site was. As you continue to develop the site, make sure you make it really clear what the purpose of your site is from the get-go.
