Instead of using software to see where your website/pages are ranking for certain keywords, is there a software available that shows what keywords my site/pages is ranking on the first page of? I intend on having hundreds of pages on my website that each have their own keywords so it will be hard to track, I just want to know if they are on the first page of the search engines for any keywords and what those particular keywords are.
Yes there are certainly many methods out there to check your website ranking in the search engine but the best of them is paid service not free. but you can still check mywebranking.com to get some good results
But doesn't that site have you input the keywords that you are looking for? I just want to put in one of my page's URLs and have the software bring up a list of keywords/phrases that the page is ranking for and where it is ranked.
Google Webmaster Tools? It shows an average rank (there is no true rank really, due to personalisation and similar), which you can filter by country, mobile, web and/or image search, etc. One problem with doing ranking checking is that it can skew search volume, which would be bad for any keywords with low search volume (such as long tail keywords). Now imagine you and five other webmasters are doing that on a regular basis for something that gets just ~500/searches per month. How many of that 500 are someone rank checking? I'm not sure if the API searches count, though. I've never bothered to check. Although a lot of rank checkers just use scraping anyway (DigitalPoint's does not).
Quite simply there is no way to know what keywords your website ranks for completely not on page 1 for on one search engine let alone all of them. Or to be more precise there is no way to tell every keyword phrase your website ranks for. Though this in its self is not competely strictly true absolutely! Confused? Let me explain... Now let us break this down to demonstrate why this is so. Let us take a 6 page website and take every single word within that website and list every possible combination of those words to make all possible phrases. We have very possible search phrase available to us in very combination so we (so it seems) clearly could determine where we rank by checking those search terms. Yes each and every one of them all possible combinations that there are available by what we can see and read. However these things (the results thta is) change all the time and there is also the chance we can also rank for words that are not on the site and because of words being asssociated with other words. So one might rank rank for a phrase with best in it by having the word good but due to other factors Google would be perceiving you as more relevant and so ranking you. No tool and especially not Google webmasters tool as that is a wholly diffrent animal can show you where you rank for every keyword combination possible on your site. I doubt even Google could know such things about a site but who knows absolutely I would not like to say that is definate for sure without a lot more ifo than I presently have. Now not only is it presently impossible to get hold of a tool to tell you every keyword phrase you rank for and where any slight change on your site or off your site could change this and so such a tool would be in a constant state of flux. This flu being the flux one would associate with the movement of a river in that it would be contant moving and changing and so undiscernable. As I hope I have demenstarted even for a 6 page website this would be nigh on imossible now imagine a a website of a larger scale and a website which gets updated regulary or form time to time and you cna begin to understand how this becomes increasingly more difficult with every page and with every page competing etc etc and so on. So no there is no software that can show you where you rank for everyhting and also no software that can even show you every phrase you rank page 1 for as this also changes regularly. I hope this helps and if anyone can prove me wrong I will give you one year of free web hosting and 3 months free SEO (subject to conditions) and we will all be more wiser and enlightened by you proving me wrong. I won't hold my breathe... Though you never know perhaps Shawn/DP will give making a software to do so a go?
1) Thank you very much for the clear and convincing response. 2) I'm new here, so how do you "like" somebody's post? I feel like I owe several people some likes (including yours) in some threads.
