I created a website a few months ago and since then I’ve been doing a bit with the SEO. Trouble is that SEO is a major weakness for me! I’ve added the site to Google Index. However if I do a search on the full domain name it doesn’t show up in the search results. Some of my subpages do but never the homepage. I would have thought when I was putting in the exact address into the search engine that it would be in the results. Would there be a reason why it isn’t?
Just give it some time. What happens when you search only your domain in google like this: site:YOURDOMAIN
Could be many reasons. You will need to give more info for proper answers. For example it could be you are using a name someone else already uses, would be one of the first things I would think... but as I said there are a lot of other reasons to.
When I search the domain name again the search just returns a number of subpages but not my homepage. I understand that I takes time but I thought it unusual that the subpages were showing in results.
IS your website a wordpress site , if yes, than you must check your meta tag, the keyword density of your home page. You can also make a short youtube video with your home page url and see if Google index the video. My experiance Google indexes video's within 24 hours Good luck, Clife
Is this to make sure this "meta tag" is in the head and not the body? And should that be done b4 or after the slow youtube vid indexing?
The meta tag is the text that Google will use for their index. The meta tag is max 170 characters, if your site is a wordpress site you can dowload the plugin Wordpress SEo from yoast. The Meta tag is in the Body, if it's not a Wordpress site. Important, if it is a EMD website, you must be careful with your keyword density, it must be 1% on a 400 word article. No the youtube video you can uploaded it any time, make sure you enter the keyword and in different ways and the topic of your video is also important. Hope this helps Clife
Jeez not exactly Flash Gordon are we that's called a "Description meta tag" And seriously please read what you wrote since then in last post to
I know what I am talking about bcz all my sites are on the 1st page and a number of them on the 1st.spot
Well it's a good that you know what you are talking about as then at least one person does know what you are talking about
ROFLMAO @Clife... Revelations-Decoder is correct. ANTHING that starts with "<meta " is a meta tag/element. You are talking about the meta description element (<meta name="description" content="Whatever the hell Google 'might' show as the snippet in the SERPS but not always."). There are infinitely many possibilities for <meta> elements as you can make up ANY value for the name="" attribute and it will validate. The meta keywords element is another example (<meta name="keywords" content="you probably stuff crap here">) which, of course, is ignored by Google and most search engines from a ranking perspective. BTW... Google doesn't "always" show the meta description element as the SERP snippet. They typically only show it if ALL of the words in the user's search phrases also appear in the meta description.
Submit your website in Google webmaster tool and also add the sitemap on your site, so it helps the Google to index all the pages properly.try to generate more back links for your homepage URL.
Well, i agree with above post. You should try to add site map and google webmaster tools to your site, i hope it will help your site to grow.
