Question about new website being indexed

New to web design and I was just wondering about how long it takes to start getting ranked for various keywords? My site seems to be jumping around on the search results... It's only a month old though.

If it keeps jumping around, it is most likely indexed :)

You have to wait a lot in order to see your website ranking for multiple keywords.
If you dont write enough and unique content and also if you dont advertise your website with multiple methods , it would be very difficult to see your website at the top of google.

    Thanks

If you have quality content it will take anything from 1 month to 3 months. I recently started a new site and within days it got indexed, and within a month reached it's targeted keyword raking on Page 1. Assuming your talking about Google Search.

If you have poor quality than you might never get ranked. Content is King!

Disagree. Google says content is king, but they have no way of knowing good from bad content. Of course they can measure bounce rate and they use this as somewhat of a "content quality" indicator but it's not the gold standard. It's all about high PR backlinks and links within your site. And content freshness. That is something google can measure.

If it is being filled with quality contents then age does not matter. It will be indexed and rank well.

    It depend on many factor,
One is if your new site is linked from other stronger sites, if yes you will be indexed sooner (few weeks after start). Otherwise it takes long, sometimes it takes 1-3 months. But it also depend on quality of your site and on competition of keywords..

Also you can speed it up if you submit your ULR to google. Here is URL where you can do it:
    http://www.google.com/submityourcontent/website-owner/

    good luck :)

Have heard that Google actually hires real humans to analyze content. This is how they can tell if it's quality. Provided those humans aren't likely highly paid or have high education requirements, but still. It's not all automated bots.

Considering the sheer mass of content there is, I would highly doubt this. They may have some people doing this, but I doubt they could cover more than a small percentage of the new content that is added on a daily basis. If they do, my guess would be that they only do it for those who rank high for competitive keywords. In other words, small-time SEO people have nothing to worry about there.

Continue writing content full of relevant keywords for your website. Your site can rank with little to no effort if you have enough content that will be indexed by the search engines. There is no wrong with moving ranking because it is totally normal.
