It's difficult to get .edu backlinks and wiki links. You need to have built your site as an authority site or reference site. If you're starting link building just now, look at getting links from sites within your niche or related to your niche. Search engines look at relevance now, not just link juice from high PR sites.

Getting back links from high authority sites like EDU blogs is not that easy. They are very sensitive to links or back links posted on their blogs or sites. If you are really willing to get back links from them, you can have them by leaving some comments on to their page or articles.
