I wanted to know different ways in which you guys use your business cards. I'm currently designing my business card and thought might as well find out how people use them. Here are some of the ways I will probably use business cards:
    • I usually hand my business cards out to anyone I meet.
    • Go to local businesses such as restaurants, corner shops, fast food shops and give them my business card and put a few more at the counter for passerby's to take.
    • Post them to houses local to me.
    • Get businesses in a similar field to me and ask them if they could help me by spreading my business card and I would do the same to them.
    • Place business card within books (In or similar to my niche) in the library or a book store. This will help target a specific market which could potentially get me a lot more visitors and customers.
    • Create a business card in a magnet form, customers or potential customers can stick it on the fridge and this way they can find your contact information whenever they need to without losing your business card. Plus they will have a constant reminder whenever they go to the fridge.
Here were some of the ways in which I will want to use business cards once I have finished designing them. Are there any other ways in which I can use them? Hope my ways in using them in the future help you and give you ideas.

What return on the investment of your time do you get? All but the first one look like a phenomenal waste of time.

I'm still designing my business card so have not found any results yet. Depending on the niche you are in some of the ideas I have put up could work. Such as if I had a pluming or computer repair business, the last bullet point could be used which is make a business card in a magnet form. A lot of people have computer faults or have a pluming issue if your business card is on their fridge they will remember this and can easily contact your business.

If you have a essay writing business you could put your business card within books in the library where a lot of students go and they can easily pick your business card up and call or email you for you to do their essays. So it really depends on your business whether these will have a return on investment.

You have some amazing ideas for promoting your business cards that I never would have thought of.

That said, I have a dozen or so magnets on my fridge door. I have never called any of them.

The last business card that I called was 5 years ago, and that was my bosses business card, as I needed to call in sick and didnt have the number saved in my phone.

If i need a plumber, or other service, I dont think "need to wait until i get home and check the fridge / front desk for business cards", i simply whip out my phone, go to google, type in "sydney plumber urgent" and the numbers there:
    (02) 9711 8799

And from that I expect to be able to go to their site, click on their number, and have it ring (without typeing in the numbers)

Make sure you card has a QR code on the back.

@matt_62 Have to admit what your saying makes sense. When I was first thinking about making a business card I had doubts that it would be worth the time nor the money. A friend convinced me that it would be worth it and now I'm contemplating whether it is actually worth spending my money. What I am most likely going to do is buy a small batch and experiment and see whether it is worth it. Thanks Sarah and Matt

I would advise against these practises, because they are .... spam aka unwanted advertising (even illegal in some countries, without explicit permission).

Well, tell them that your business card is magnetic, so they won't put it near an electronic device or chipcard
