What does "backorder" on Go Daddy mean?

There is a domain listed for $20 on Go Daddy that I am interested in. It is listed as on backorder.

However, this is an active domain that I recognize because they are one of my companies affiliates.

Is there a possibility that I can purchase it on backorder or is that basically the same things as unavailable?

It same thing as unavailable...

Backorder means keeping yourself in line when the domain name is available to buy.

 

does it imply that the domain will be available soon or not?

also, you aren't actually charged until it's available, right?

 

'Backorder' on GD was not the standard domain backorder as what SERPpoint mentioned, and the domain name didn't enter into the period of "pending deletion".

 

I think it's a useless option.

 

thanks! after getting excited by domain names listed as available on backorder I am now disappointed by how useless of an option it seems. Oh well.

 

well, it might be useless but not be a bad marketing method to keep customers stay with them, GD is smart
