I've heard "a site is worth 12 months revenue" before -- but does it still count to a site earning about $600k a year? It get's 4 million hits a month. Any ideas what it could be worth? And best place to sell it?? Thanks for the help!
I think if the site is earning that much money per year you will need to seek an appraiser first, take an full audit and then find a good broker. This sites sell well in auction not in direct sale, so go for the biggest bid. Depending on the site revenue model and the site type you can gen more than 12 months revenue.
Managing site like that isn't easy at all... It is really hard to maintain site that earns 600k and sometimes selling site like that is a better option..
I will not sell my sites with 600k per year earning. You will get bunch of money in a time if you sell it.
If you are really serious about selling, I would suggest using a broker. We've used Hillary over at Cheval Capital in the past.. Hillary Stiff <> Good people to deal with!
If the website is earning 600K, you could employ staff to maintain the website for a part of the generated income. And keep the profit for yourself, remember that you might be owning a goldmine maybe the site could cost a fortune after few years if maintained at the same level. In addition, anyhow you will get this 600K every twelve months.. so isnt it a good idea to ramp up a team and then forget your troubles? (and yes keep the site too)
I personally would not sell such a goldmine. But you said your looking for a site to sell it on, I would go with Flippa.
But i guess with that amount of money you could hire some people to help. If it was mine I wouldn't sell it
These two guys started this service: http://www.websitebroker.com/ Both are attorneys from California dealing with high end site sales. I am thinking you you should contact them personally and hear what they have to say. You def. need an attorney's advice (or an attorney) if you want to sell a high end site.
Well, we can all discuss what he should do it, but none of us doesn't know how to deal with a website that earns 600k a year... I'm also questioning does he earns that kind of money.. He didn't share link or anything...
Conclusion: If you really have decided to sell the site. (in which case you would lose a passive income of 600k a year) Then make sure you contact someone reliable like those mentioned above to help you with the sale. But if some of us have changed your mind about not selling the site, then get some moderates or site managers which you can easily hirer here or at fiverr or freelancer. A word of advice, monitor your site managers to make sure that they are doing a good job, then sit back, relax and count your cash while you pay someone else to do the work for you!
Hire a respected website broker, they got great contacts and can do alot of the work for a small fee.
About 80k a year. Advertising only. To get back on track here, my advice to OP would be to not sell it at 12 months revenue. This depends a lot on the actual profit and potential of the business but I would go as high as 18 months. I think a business that makes that much takes time to build. Contact Flippa to set you up a nice private auction but also contact some large companies you think would be interested. At this level, serious buyers might be hard to find but you never know. Good luck!
At that level it depends on so many other factor. How established it is, the niche, profit over revenue, how diverse the income streams are, the state of the competition, etc. etc. It could be a lot less than 12x monthly but it could also be A LOT more. Just look at Qype for an initial example.
