    simple question

as you know many versions of the popular softwares have recently released new versions i.e firefox

but i found i prefered the older version to the newer versions and whenever you do a search you can only ever find the new version.

well not anymore i came across this www.oldversion.com (no its not mine)

this site is fantastic it has loads of older versions including 9 versions of firefox

just thought i would share this with you all

Depends. I still prefer Windows 2000 Pro over XP because it can run on older systems, does everything XP can and doesn't have product activation.

For other software, newer tends to be better.

Whichever version of the software thats most tested and reliable thats the one i use. Even when new software updates are released i prefer to wait till its properly tested.

Actually it is not a simple question. It all depends on the particular software. For instance, how would you like to have an old version of an anti-virus program?

I agree. It depends on the software. For example, even though it comes in a cartridge and could potentially be called "Firmware", I prefer the original version of Final Fantasy I with spell slots to the new version, because if you can say you beat the original version it MEANT something. All beating the new version means is that you had some time on your hands to use. *sigh* "Nintendo Hard" just doesn't mean what it used too.

Then again, sometimes when they re-release a game they leave the game play identical (except for some bug fixes), and just update the graphics to be prettier. In that case, the new release is almost always better.

I voted "Dont know" cause the poll wasnt worded right :D

It says: "Do you prefer the old or the new versions"

Instead of: "Do you prefer older software over newer"

And yes i love that site "Oldversion" :)

    I voted yes,

Basically if there is not much change, then I like to live on the old one.

If the new version is out, I go for the new verion on the ones I am starting after that release.

    thanks

It depends on the software as mentioned earlier.

If it ain't broken don't fix it.

Well i prefer updated versions for a simple reason that it comes with bugs fixed which are available in older versions.

    Depends on the software.
I likem the fact that older software generally takes up less space.

I recently upgraded to Internet Explorer version 7. Yes, yes, I know. I still need to try navigator and fire fox. I'm getting there. I only recently got time to do basic maintenance! Anyway, I really liked the tabs, and can hardly wait till opening a new tab puts the current page in it, just like opening a new window does. ^_^

However, for a long time I preffered 98 to the other versions of Windows that came out... that is, until XP.

In general keeping software up to date is the best way to keep the security hatches buttoned down; however, I find staying off the bleeding edge for major software updates (e.g. Windows Vista) is a prudent move. I prefer to wait on a major version of Windows until after the first service pack has been released.
