We have rebuilt the existing website, Shall i need to add meta keywords while optimizing the new website. Older website already optimized and has meta keywords. So i want to avoid adding meta keywords in the new website. Any problem in that...? I heard somewhere that Google is not considering meta keywords. Shall i use the targeted keywords in meta keywords?

The meta keywords tag is pretty much ignored by all the search engines at this point. So, it will have little or no impact whether you use it or not. The only possible way I could think of the meta keywords tag impacting your search rankings is if you overstuff it and get penalized, but even that is unlikely. So, it really doesn't matter whether you use it or not.

Google came up earlier 2012 in a video explaining that meta keywords will not affect in anyway search results, so you may do what you want with them it's not going to affect your website..

It takes less than 60 seconds to add meta keywords to a new page. So I still do it, not stuffing, but using just a few main keywords.

My reason? Google probably ignores it. It's possible that some other search engines still pay some attention to it. So for 60 seconds' work, I figure it's worth that small effort. And who knows ... the way Google is constantly changing, a year or three or five from now they may once again say that meta keywords are good. If so, my pages will have them.

Thanks so much for your replies. I will use some of the main keywords. And i would not repeat any keywords.

Yes, you should still use meta tags as there is no harm doing this.. But mostly you have to focus on meta title and meta description, these two are main, however, Google can take meta description from content as well, if it thinks relevant.

Now Google is not considering the meta keywords in ranking algorithms. You just ignore it. If we use, our competitors will know our target keywords.
