Can someone explain the ins and outs of backlinking? I understand it's a link on another website to your website, but how much does it affect your Google ranking? and what's to stop you from putting your site's link on a load of sites? Does it matter if my site is linked more than once from the same site? Does linking to my site in blog posts/comments help? Should I be putting my img link 'Designed by Klikkit' at the footer of all my client sites?
Backlinks from another site means that site pointing at your site. Simple as it is - That site is referrering your site as good site. & Google will notice this & your domain rank will grow up.
Backlinking means links to yuor site from an external source. The higher the number and quality of links to your site, the higher its ranking. You site can be linked more than once from the same website but must be from different pages. Linking to your site from blog pots and comments is very good. Putting image links on your clients' websites will iomprove its ranking. Does linking to my site in blog posts/comments help? Should I be putting my img link 'Designed by Klikkit' at the footer of all my client sites?
No, I mean they will not harm your website if they appear at steady rate. But Google will penalize your website if 100s of link appear suddenly. Yes, they help but if done correctly with lot of Variation. Yes, why not? They won't harm your website. If you're asking if it will negatively impact your site, then no it won't. There's nothing wrong if your site is linked by the same site more than once. Yes it does because those links to your site on your comments become backlinks too. You should if they are your original designs. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
What are Backlinks? Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. They are link on one website, lets Say ‘Yahoo’ which links to another website, say ‘YouTube’ therefore it is YouTubes backlink. These links are very impotent to webmasters because BOTS find your website easier through links for bigger websites, and search engine Trust websites with more links. As an advise, consider to analyze you site for BAD backlinks. There are a lot of web services, good ones, that will help you find and remove the undesired backlinks, because some of them can actualy be harmful. Some of these services even offer free trial packages. Just a suggestion
Ideally you want as many high quality sites as possible to link to you and ideally they're linking to you with very descriptive text that matches your brand/website's primary focus. @Rajib dn You can try to the Google disavow tool (assuming it's available now)?
Backlinks are sites linking your Url on their page, the more popular the site the better your site looks.
Ahh yes of course, if your site doesn't relate to the content your backlink is coming from google will know!
From personal experience blog posts work great when done well, but they get archived and lose their potency after a while depending on the refresh rate of the blog. That's the only downside. So I don't bother with blog links anymore but they work if you do them right.

Does getting 'backlinks' from blog comments fall under no-follow or do-follow? If all backlinks through comments are no-follow, how to make them do-follow or how to get do-follow links?
