OK, can you please let me know if you are using profile picture (your photo)? If yes, then is this the same image which you have used here? If this is the same dp image on your freelance site then I would say that it is not too bad but it is not too good too.. try to use image like mine, you should look intelligent and too confident in your picture at the same time you should look polite too and this expression can be maintained while talking/chatting/emailing with your clients too.

Also, when you are sending message to your client then please don't send double and tipple messages if you didn't get reply of your first message, it shows needy/greedy which is not too good..

You need to be on the point only, whatever you are answering it should be direct answer to your client question, not too much, don't try show over-smartness and don't interfere in their work, if you found any fault with your client (according to you, if you think that the project should be done this/that way) don't suggest that way to your client, it shows that you are too smart which your client don't like.

    Good question.
I can't give it a clear answer, but since I'm using oDesk to hire people, I can tell you what make me choose them.
    1. Feedback - from few different projects.
    2. No less then 100hrs
    3. If its complicate project - I check they work in group so they can consult.
    4. Relevance for my project. If I need to develop Drupal site but you are experienced in Wordpress, I wouldn't waste my time asking questions.
    5. Examples of previous work
    6. English level
    7. How quickly you reply to questions I ask
    8. How many working hours you will work per day?

I think those are the most I check before I hire someone. I hope it gives you something :)

When first getting started at a new freelance site, you'll need to think about accepting some really low-paying jobs in order to build positive feedback and reputation. This is probably the one area which will have significant impact on your ability to get jobs. Do whatever you need to do to fill your feedback page with glowing reviews.
