Impact of Penguin 2.0

Today I came into the office to start running my monthly reports and found 3 clients directly impacted by the Penguin 2.0 update. I'm running diagnostics now to find the toxic links that probably contributed to this but wanted to ask for suggestions on how best to handle. I use SEOmoz and Cember Detox so I'm trying to be as methodical as possible. I've definitely been link building consistently over the past year so I don't think there are any link velocity issues... I'm assuming its the links themselves. Any other ideas?

When you say directly impacted, have you been hit with a severe penalty? Are all your keywords gone from the SERPs, or have you just lost some rank? If it's just a question of lost rank (10 -20) spots then you've just fallen victim to some links being devalued, and you'll have to continue your link building efforts with higher quality relevant links via either renting links, blog network posts , direct acquisition of domains, etc. to gain your rank back. If you got any "unnatural link warnings from google" then using the disavow tool on some of your most "spammy" links will be warranted also to show them you are cleaning up your "mess". But rank reshuffling is very common around the time of big updates. Then you just pick up from where you are. Only really need to worry if you have been hit with a real penalty.... and that's when you drop out of the SERPs for all search terms for anything besides maybe your site title. Then you have problems. Then its time to disavow all junk links, send in reconsideration requests, and maybe say a little prayer or two :) That's been my experience anyway.

    Regards.

Perhaps it because of your anchor text variation. You need a lot more anchor text variation with the new Penguin 2.0, for example generic anchor text like, click here, for more information, etc. This case study is very helpful in understanding what Penguin 2.0 did.

Doing all these, you may not get success, as apart from links, traffic, content are also very important.
