Either way I don't know how such issue could be associated with the topic discussed here, leave the past where it belongs, the past time. Back on topic, I realized the forum was going slow but unsure why, even thinking it was an Internet connectivity issue on my side but then, kaput! DP was gone for hours and hours and only through Twitter had a slight idea of what was going on, never thought so bad as it really was. Fortunately everything is running smoothly now and, yeah, I also lost some important PMs but we must remember than in virtual life like in real life, unexpected things may happen anytime.
Not good at all. I had a fake auction user at my auction (other users commented on his profile about that) and I still had to wait like 2 days before I report him. Now I forgot his name and I guess I don`t have any reason to report, since the auction is gone. Aww...
Restart auction. Good luck on finding a bidder interested in the site at this time rather than someone who failed to respond and pay.
Whenever I find myself in a bad situation, I always say "It could always be worse". Why? I've had friends who have lost limbs and my problems pale in comparison. Never give up & I can see how this must have been extremely tenuous and stressful on you. Good job on getting things back up and running. This issue will be nothing to you in three months time, and all the content will be back where it left off!
lol..like your style to shut off people's ranting. (By banning them)....I undst, this happens and its always frustrating (Even the things you need to take care after such issues). This explains why DP remains down sometimes, like past couple of hours ago.
My bad i suppose then...but sometimes, like 16-17 hrs ago and also few days back too, DP didnt load, nor ur personal homepage, I also confirmed that by some guy by mail (he's in different region), so .. anyway, goodluck to recover whatever you can.
It was in relation to space-time, for those of us that have no real concept of time in comparison to origins. A couple of hours ago to me could have been a couple of years for someone else. For those that live deep within the codes, sometimes time ----->>>/END.
Sorry this happen to you :/ I guess the lesson to be learned is make daily/weekly backups as thats what I do with my large forums. Almost silly that your backup before this one was January as thats very noob like 0_o Anyways, thanks for the good work over the years keeping the site up with minimal downtime
I`m not really sure you can make a daily backup on a forum like DP. Unless you hire someone to. After any website failure I promise me to make daily backups! That lasts until I actually need to make them, about 2 hours later...
Now that the forum is fully in the database cluster, we can make them as often as we want without any downtime and people using the database.
Good to see everything is working smoothly now I can imagine the burden and frustration you've been through seeing such a catastrophic thing happen. Just wondering how much time does the forum take to back up? I can imagine it runs on a dozen servers? Cheers
Under the new server cluster (now that the database is fully in it), it taks 5 minutes to back up ~125GB worth of databases (8 server cluster).
Shawn the main thing is for you not to stress too much about this. It was an accident and life is full of accidents. We had a similar situation once and it affected me very personally and I ended up in hospital. In a couple of weeks, it will be forgotten and life moves on. We are behind you...
