I have had it with my web host and looking for a reliable host using the Wordpress platform on a shared plan and also with responsive and helpful customer service.

My site generally receives 200-500 hits a day but my resources are always limited for cpu usage, physical memory usage and lately concurrent entry processes. I am not a designer or coder and waste countless hours trying to research how to better optimize my site since my host will not help with anything.

I have already done the below to optimize and nothing makes a difference.

-All plugins are kept up to date
-Originally I used W3 Total Cache but not being a designer not sure how to best set up the settings and per my host recommendation I now use WP Super Cache
-I previously used WPematico plugin to import my daily post from an RSS feed which I have now deactivated and deleted.
-I confirmed with my designer that my theme is ok
-I upgraded from a basic shared plan to a premium shared plan with twice the usage available
-I had another website developer review my plugins for script issues and everything looked ok
-My other website developer disabled the automatic WP cron that runs with every visitor and page view but have it now running a manual cron every 30 minutes which is probably still too much but better than every page view
    -I had WP Minify installed
-We also enable WP Object Cache on the config.php file

With all this done and still having issues for 200-500 hits a day I find it very hard to believe this host is not scamming people into higher plans when they clearly don't need to be or they have way too many websites on each server.

Please provide any suggested webs hosts with shared plans that can handle some sort of traffic and any other optimization tips while I have you here.

    Thank you

Maybe for those interested to help out, post your url etc, do not use this thread as an attempt for self advertising of your hosting companies.

Remember that optimizing Wordpress performance with different scripts and plugins is your task, not hosts, but some hosts tech support can help you with that. As for request I would suggest OurInternet.us web hosting plan. I like their performance and featured low-cost plans.

My preferable option is to use Ramsurge.com for WP hosting. They are offering cheap shared plans where stability is highest and support is skilled.

There are hundreds of such review websites like Serchen.co.uk, hostsearch.com, reviewcentre.com,
webhostingjury.com etc... Just take their opinion with a pinch of salt ;)
Better talk to your webhost before placing an order to see their support quality and response time.

I will check them all out and think I will try @harrysmith idea to contact each and see the response times and quality of support first to narrow down the list. Been a little tied up but will report back when I can and thank you everyone.

I'm using Hostgator and never had any major failure. They have really awesome support and you can resolve any small issue within minutes. That's my recommendation and I'm sure that probably all people writing in this thread have account there as well.

I agree that Hostgator support is reliable. At Hostgator, if you don't like the quality of hosting, you may request a refund within the first 45 days of sign-up.
The work and quality of the technical support is controlled by the owner of the company, which is really great.

    to OP:
Optimizing the site is your best answer.
Even moving to server could lead to the same situation.

I have the same situation as you in the past. Maybe worse.
Imagine, thousands of categories and tags. Using so much categories and tags are not good idea but it can be useful in certain situation (actrees/place/arts, etc) than custom taxonomy.

To encounter this, I have to change so many WordPress core. I change:
    1. The way it access the database
    2. How it trying to list category and tag in widget and while creating new post.
What you need to do is checking log file and find out what make your blog using so much resources.
When I read your post, I have the first impression if you were trying to run special command through cron by placing code in footer.
You already specified changing it to manual job every 30 minutes.
What kind of cron job you were trying to run?
Most people disable cron job because it use excessive power. Off course it depend on the command assign in cron.
I see few webmaster were trying to ping their website by using cronjob. It also being used for many scenarios such as sending the sites to 'another places'.
You were using plugins which also run their own cronjob.
    Here few option for you:
    1. Disable useless cronjob.
    2. Analyze your cronjob and use less resources method to get the result. If you were trying to go to Canada by using boat which take few days, consider change it to airplane as it only take few hours.
    3. Optimize the theme. There are so many code which can be served by the same code. Avoid much database queries or use few call to database. Even if it was cached, every call to database is expensive.
    4. Change your plugin to another. Few plugins you already mentioned were quite hungry for resources and usually used by webmaster whom trying to get the rss and content from other site.
    5. Use CDN. It will greatly help you after all optimization fail. There are free and paid CDN. Few of them already offer security option as well. Even if your site was done, there is hope it still available via cdn.
Regarding hits, are you sure your site receive less than 1000 hits. Hits and visitors are different. You may want to read about it through Google.
I assume it was visitors. Sometimes bots and spammers will make your site down faster due to so many excessive accesses.

Edit: Too bad, I didn't see this thread was created in may. I believe OP already got the solution. (I was coming to this thread via 'new thread' feature. A member posting to this thread and it shown up in the top)

If you have a budget of $60 per year for hosting, then I suggest you to go for Host Gator. They are just awesome and they offer excellent support. I am also using Host Gator and I can assist you in verification process if you want to move.
