I'm just curious what your speculations are as to what Penguin 2.0 is going to affect. We know Penguin is about 'over optimization' but what is this update going to hit? I have a few guesses, please add yours. Title tags that are too long (stuffed) Title tags with only keywords Pages w/ 1 exact match anchor that equals 35%+ of the anchor text to that page Pages that have links coming from known spam havens Pages that have been artificially shared on social sites Conspiracy Theory (just for fun) Pages that do not get a good AdWords quality score Pages that have not been shared on Google+ ever
It will hit "Fish" most especially "Carp" as an anagram. Penguins eat fish. So this Penguin will be fed a diet of "Carp" so all the "carp" goes away It will drag the crap er sorry carp into a secret cavern to devour them to...
Might as well wait for the results. There is totally no use guessing unless you have some Google insiders here who are willing to share. But I doubt that. I can put in 101 more guesses, but will it even affect a single feather?
According to an article that I read earlier, optimization for mobile and spelling and grammar mistakes would also also be on the hit-list of the Google from now on.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said. I think we worry a wee bit to much about these things. Just follow google guidelines and you will be fine. There are too many sites out there that are just crap - they have NO value and some are dangerous - This is what google is after (these types of sites also DON't follow Google guidelines) So my prediction is the same as @Revelations-Decoder
Now that offsite SEO work has been been reduced (articles, etc.) and more people optimize their onsite content - I believe they will be focusing on content and keyword overdensity.
The websites that were hardest hit by Penguin had too much exact match anchor text (Hire a seo freelance, SEO Freenlancer etc...When a Click Here could be used) and link profiles that appeared unnatural to Google. Penguin is link oriented. So without taking risks we can say Penguin 2 will continue the devaluing of link spam initiated by the first Penguin update. 2 days ago, Matt Cutts gave us some hint the most important thing related to links is : Their new algorithm has a new link analysis methodology to better determine the value of links.
So let me get this right you are now trying to tell us Google prefers the highly informative "Read here" or "Read more" links right? LOL. If you believe this then good luck with your things...
Just today I’ve read a really interesting post on Link-Assistant.com blog exactly on the topic. First it scrutinizes the video of Matt Cutts where he’s talking about the upcoming Penguin 2.0 and then outlines some proactive measures to be taken. There is also a comprehensive Anti-Penguin checklist for download. The full text is here: Penguin 2.0 Google update: what to expect and what to do
Day after day, I am really asking myself if this forum has real SEO enthusiasts or just people who are living in 2010. Jesus, just google " Anchor text diversity " update your knowledge (for example with this link http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2172839/Google-Penguin-Update-Impact-of-Anchor-Text-Diversity-Link-Relevancy) , and then come back with your "LOL" posts. But since you don't want to read my posts carefully, what you don't understand when I say had too much exact match anchor text.
Have you heard the phrase "Jumping through hoops"? And also have you heard the phrase "Throwing you a Googley"? I have read all such things (usually as they surface) and have seen people running around in circles for ten years now and if you really think I take much notice of the face value on things without doing my own investigating or testing you are mistaken in your assumptions. Believe what you like Airknight but please try and test what you hear b4 repeating what others say or thta you read.
Try and test ? Because I didn't try or test this ? It's my daily job, I work in an agency, one of the most powerful here in France with key accounts such as BMW, Air France, Dailymotion... After Penguin we were confronted to people whose websites have been downgraded, we had to found a solution, do you know how many tests we have performed sometimes ? And indeed, putting variety in anchor text gives us good results in some cases. It doesn't mean you have to do this everywhere. One day you'll have a client, whose website has been downgraded in SERP due to links. I hope you'll remember my post and you'll test this.
Somehow you have managed to twist things yet again Who mentioned anything about variety in anchor texts? It was the opposite to that you said previously, so make your mind up.
You are making assumptions from me Where did I say this ? You change the whole message to make it fits what you wanted to read just to pick another fight. I said Don't use them too much, even if I'm not a native speaker, for me it means " You can use it, but don't abuse of them, you are pointing a google alert on your website doing this". Some kind of witch hunt i assume.
Another saying "Go around in circles" One post you say use "Read here" then the opposite and be diverse, which I pointed out was better to do and ignore the recent advice you are adhering to. You are obviously quite young. I am going to avoid talking to you Airnight and be thankful you don't work for me doing SEO as you say one thing one minute and say the opposite the next. Au revoir monsieur, sil vous plait..
Find me this post, right here, right now. A post when I say don't use keyword in your anchor. Another proof, I didn't say that : " one of my post on the same subject the same day " https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/why-mixed-backlinks-are-very-important-for-your-web-site.2657727/#post-18592076 In my country 20% doesn't mean 100% I assumed it was the same everywhere. It seems I was wrong.
