What do you guys think of http://new.soldsie.com/. Essentially it allows you to sell things on your facebook page. Users can buy a product just by typing "sold" on a product post. Does it have potential?

I've found Facebook and other social media sites are useful for getting targeted traffic. But it's tough to sell on FB as most people are there to keep in contact with friends and family.

I would agree with you on this. Also people who try to market their business or opportunity would most likely pass you up. It's almost like people are screaming for attention and nobody listens.

I don't disagree fernie02. There is a lot of competition on social media.

While I agree that most people go to Facebook for finding friends and keeping in touch with people, it is also a powerful marketing tool, so checking it out for a product or a company is something common. I have seen such type of product selling before - it may work on a local basis, but in the long run - an online store always wins, so...

you need a hard core fan based before you are trying to sell something. A typical conversion (liked, share or clicks) on Facebook is typically about 1%, selling conversion may be a bit lower e.g 0.1%, so your page has few people, 100, then you will bare getting any clicks, or even make a sale.

So from past experience, 10K fan base is a good start to sell something.

I think you guys can sell things either way but Facebook I do not think is a good playform for any established company to make sales this way.Sites with good trust by Siteadvisor etc are good.Do not become part of scam.Stay active and keep your eyes open always.

Facebook becomes a great platform to market and brand your product/service if you have an initiattive attached to it. Just plain selling won't take you anywhere...

There are network groups that you could join and sell your products. There are even marketplaces on facebook for some products that you could advertise or sell your products for free! For me, I own many domains, and I have known that many people have sold the domains through facebook.
