On this forum we see writers in all shapes and sizes. There are those who will write anything if their rates are met, while others stick to specific jobs and then there are the writers who focus on the writing exclusively and will only take on an assignment if it matches their particular "art" of writing. I am sure I left lots of things out but for the question I am about to ask, I think the above will suffice. Every writer has his or her own reasons to write. Some just love writing, others do it because they can and need the money, while some just do it for a little extra money on the side. This being said, if you could step into your time machine and go back to that moment where it all started, and you entered the writers arena, knowing what you know now, would you do it again, or would you think twice and make other choices? For me personally I would not think twice and do it again exactly the way I started back in 2006. I love to write, I love the SEO angle added to it and the money is good as well. In fact, after my accident I fought long and hard to get back into the writers saddle again to do exactly that: Be a writer once again. I guess, that with this thread I am trying to find out what motivates different kinds of writers to do what they are doing right now. How many of you are here by choice, and how many of you are here because you have to be to make ends meet? What motivates you to be a writer, and if you could would you be something other then a writer?
Yes - but I would have totally skipped the magazine bit where I got my start and went straight to doing business freelance.
I would change everything I have done. I started writing SEO and content such as that even though I love to write, I found the whole thing a little boring and repetitive. Trying to make poor products look good and saying the same poor thing on every single website but in a different way. I moved into having my own blogs on sports writing etc.. This proved to be a lot more exciting for me and to be honest the gains where a lot more. My sites get accepted into Google News I can earn a fortune in affiliates and adsense and I enjoy what I write, it keeps my mind focused. Even after all of this if I get bored with a particular site, I can sell it for upwards of $2000 here at DP. I reckon I missed out on about 3 years of doing that so I missed out on potentially a lot of money I'm 28 now and could of been doing this since I was 18, I'd probably be rich.
I'd go way back to 1992. That was when I was first introduced to the Internet. Little did any of us government workers know that it would become what it has become today. I would certainly snatch up as many dictionary domains as I could. I was first introduced to Adsense in the mid to late 1990s and completely missed the potential of it. I would have joined those early adapters writing content sites on some of those dictionary domains. After selling off the whole mess, I could be relaxing on a beach somewhere and writing my memoirs. oh, if only
I am not a professional writer, but have always wanted to be one. I was not able to pursue it and I am finding it difficult to do so now. Given a chance I would have explored my passion for writing and turned it into something more. Have a good day!
No, I do not engage in site flipping. I am into affiliate marketing, which in a way requires excellent writing skills, but I am far from being a professional writer. Have a good day!
I saw this in a movie and loved it: In real terms we can't go back in time. Also the time machine is a place to go when you don't like something. However people don't know that what you don't like now it will become I didn't like it back then. So the time machine is right here with you. You can use it to change your future.
Being a bit of a newbie to the writing arena, the only thing I regret is that I didn't do it sooner!! I like being able to write, I like the fact that other people read what I write and that I have an impact on other peoples lives, even if only in a small way!
