Site Ranked #3 on Google but..

    Hi,

    My site is ranked #3 on google for a term with 3600 exact searches every month.

    I'm wondering why I'm not getting any hits according to Google Analytics. The analytics are working as I tested my own personal hits.

    Is there any other reason this could be the case? Is google keyword tool off?

    Yea, it is saying hits are coming. Seeing how my site is mostly targetted to opt ins, and I haven't seen a single one, I'm tending to assume Google's numbers are right. Don't know for sure though.

    Also why would analytics be having problems, if that is the case. When I searched from another computer, and clicked my link, it showed up as search traffic, and when I went direct it showed up as direct traffic. So it seems to be working correct.

    Well we could test it to see which one is right if you want me to try it for you? EG message me the search term and I will click through and you can check to see in both Google and in Awstats and then you will be one step closer to knowing if it's just Google or somethign else.

    Well problem I'm having with AWstats, I made a bunch of websites, and not all are ranked yet, but they are all showing roughly the same traffic, I think it's just the spiders.

    Perhaps everyone is getting exactly what they want from the first place result as it satisfies every searcher on the query and so renders all other results under it unclicked. 3rd they say has a relatively small average (supposedly).

    Damn that would be awfully unfortunate.

    I have read the rough hits per position is something like this:

    Obviously each niche varies but I was hoping with roughly 200 searches/day, I can at least get 10 hits/day out of 3rd spot.

    That 11.4 is an averge over lot's of search terms though don't forget. Maybe you really need to be #1 on that particular one

    Haha yea, now I'm wondering why and what can I do to improve that lol.

    You'd think in top 5 results on Google even if it is by accident someone would click...

    don't forget that the numbers you see on G.keyword tool are rough estimation and it can be even 30% less.
    and maybe the 1st result really answers the people needs

    Have you checked to make sure you're not getting personalised results from Google? I thought one of my sites was on page one before when it turns out it was actually on page three :D

    Agreed what are you using to check your rankings?
    Google rankings fluctuate a little by location, type of computer/moble, ip ect...
    happened to me in the past where I thought I was tanking #4 but really was #8 when I used an online tracking tool or looked under webmasters tools in google

    It should be that the top two sites are very authoritative, well recognized online brands and might be getting the lot of traction, also it might be with the keywords in title, URL and meta description which might not be enticeful for the users to click. Can't blame analytics which works fine as long as it is made sure that the javascript tracking code is on all the pages on the site. Another reason might be that the few visits that came to site with that keyword being searched in search engines might be when users have searched after logging into Google account or in incognito mode which will displayed as <not provided> in keyword data of search traffic in analytics.

    My first thought is that your title tag and meta description are not appealing enough for people to click on. Refine them, give people a reason to click on your listing rather than on someone else's.

    Have you checked to see that your site is actually ranking from differing locations? Try it and see using a tool like isearchfrom.com. Google has really turned up the localised result sets lately so even though you may be seeing yourself at number 3, it could well be that you are only number 3 in very local areas. Try and search from further town/city using the tool above and see if you still get in at number 3.

    Most likely, the above problem would be, I think.....it is due to personalized searches...check in different browser.
