I will try some colours, but definitely your actual background makes me feel like in 1990 The hover looks pretty good. These little changes are a big difference for the navigation.

Without updating colors, I already like your site, and now more update make I like yours more.. Now, I like you because updating and following suggestion.. Loved your feedback! And I thank all the guys who responded 'coz they are the only reason why I added the HOVER effects... Now looking for background alternatives.... (and perhaps a better logo with tagline as am not a designer and the current one is designed by me only)
For background picture, try look at http://subtlepatterns.com/, they have background pattern for free.. About logo, I don't have any idea yet, but for now maybe you can change font for your logo.. Good luck..
