    Hi all,

    I need to create a very basic logo/banner for a new site. Could anyone recommend any free to download software? It will probably be a text only logo so don't need anything too flash

    There are tons of people on internet who makes logo for 5 dollars :)

    I remember I used XARA 3D in the far far past, the elder versions were free.... For 3D text only.

    It is a good idea to ask somebody on the Internet to do it, if it is really simple. Many people will do it for free, just to put it in their portfolio after you use it on your website ;)

    Thanks Kenzo. I downloaded GIMP yesterday and started playing around with it. I think I should be able to come up with something good enough for my needs using GIMP

    Hey your site is new and you make to logo for that. Those people who provide free service their work is not quality work and I think so logo is very important for site logo. Logo should be attractive make this this way which tell everything about your site. So for that pay some money and make your logo good.

    Why make logos when there are hundreds of new PSD Logo Template sites out there..?? I needed a logo and this guy wanted $50 What??? Yes exactly,.. But a good sniff around the web for New Logo template sites will bring up loads fo sites.. Check out http://Mintlogos.com for hundreds of new funky logo templates. All you need is Photoshop and away you go.. Why make harder work for yourselves when the work is nearly already done for you!

    Theres GIMP, also AAA logo: http://www.aaa-logo.com
    Im sure if you sniffed around google you would find something.

    This is the more proffesional route to take.
    Free product always means +1mil or more using the exact same thing, and for a big business or a small business that wants to identify themselfs standalone and a direct visual to there company you would hire a designer. Look free is always good, but this is why there is a cost.

    I think the best way is to start using illustrator and create some original and unique logos . Sothink Logo Maker, AAA Logo , Logo Design Studio Pro ....etc .. just get a logo from one of those software and search for it on google images and you will se how many results you will get.

    adobe photoshop is the best software for creating logo's for websites but if you want to print logo in large banner then you need to create logo in vector software like illustrator or corel draw.

    As you said you want only a simple logo then there are many websites that let you to do that. You may go and search on google by writing "free logo making website" you will get your solution.....
