You can try Gimp (freeware), Paintshop Pro (~100), and the big daddy Photoshop (~600).

From my experience, honestly though, Photoshop is worth every penny. It's like you live 50 miles away from work and photoshop is your ferrari.

I really suggest that you edit your post. Might end up getting some legal issues from the audience.

Ah, I forgot to mention. I bought my license photoshop so it's really offensive seeing people posting things like that in front of my face.

Fireworks 8 is excellent for a beginner (great layout and resources which is equal to photoshop) and very easy to pick up with practice.

Id start with the best - Photoshop. Once you get used to the main navigational elements its rather easy to use. Plus there are loads of tutorials and books avaliable to take advantage of the more advanced features!!!

Yea, I'm a beginner and I just use the GIMP and Inkscape, two open source graphics programs. Inkscape manipulates SVGs like I believe adobe illustrator does, and GIMP is like an equivalent to photoshop. If you need GIMP tutorials check out gimptalk dot com

    Hello all,

I'm actually looking into a good software program for web graphics for the beginner?

From what I've learned Photoshop appears to be the best although, more expensive.

As I am pursuing a career in website design and web graphics I believe it's butter I go with a more best software possible. So for me it's Photoshop all the way.

Photoshop for web or print is not really the only option. Illustrator has features that whacks photoshop in the face. So it's like vector vs pixels. With some reviews and personal experience, vector may be the best option for web deign.

cssremix, csstux and csszengarden : my top favorites.

Yes, it can. Do a google search for paintshop pro tutorials to get an idea of what you can do. I used it a lot before I got Photoshop. It's a good tool and you can do quality work with it.

After viewing the COREL website, it seems CorelDRAW is the right tool and Paint Shop PRO is for photos. Am I missing something?

If this is in reference to downloading photoshop illegally, this was also what i did, however, the quality of the program and the vast amount of work its both done for me and optimized for all my websites, I eventually bought two full licenses for Photoshop, best money i ever spent.

However, had i not downloaded photoshop illegally, i would have never spent money on photoshop in the first place, and thats the side of downloading most people fail to see, especially since the 30 day trial is most definately not long enough when your first becoming familar with the program..

If i download anything, and i like it, i will buy it. It stops me getting ripped off from publishers hiding the flaws in there programs until you've already gone too far.
